I recently purchased a.456 mold, but it doesn't leave the cavity in the bottom of the bullet. I have never even fired a conical bullet. Would it fire properly without the cavity?

You are refering to the hollow base and yes, on many a conical, it is not there. Although I might personally prefer the hollow base, You shoudl be okay. Looks like you are trying to use it in a ROA; check me if I'm wrong. Again, they will shoot just fine but personally, I still prefer the round ball. You are fine ...... :o

Yes. Mine works very well. You may have a very difficult time loading it in a Pietta 44 cal revolver. I would imagine the same goes for a Uberti. The 0.456 Lee Conical loads easily in a ROA.
Hope this helps.

I have a Pietta Stainless Target that takes a .457 ball like the ROA. A .454 is not snug, the .457 is.
The same configured, Stainless Target, Uberti takes the .454 ball.

just FYI

I really just picked it up for the novelty, I plan on shooting them with a dragoon which I have only shot .454 balls. Does anyone know of a .454 conical mold with a hollow base? The hollow in the minnie ball was to allow it to expand to better fit the barrel, are there any other uses, stability possibly?
