Lee bulge buster

I came into a large ammount of .40 s&w range brass and noted the majority had been fed to a glock. I decided, before i got started loading it, that i would buy a bulge buster and run the whole lot through it. I read on line that you attach it to a carbide factory crimp die, so i got one of those too. They arrived today, and after putting them together, im wondering what the bulge buster part even does besides attaching to the catch cup... if it works to .45 cal, the carbide ring would be the only thing touching the brass.... so the bulge buster seems to only be a thread protector for the die and a punch for the ram.... am I wrong about that? Not a big deal for $15... but just curious

The punch is needed because the case has to go all the way through the CFCD's carbide ring, head included. That's why you have to take the cirmp ring and adjustment plug out of the die to use it. The plastic bin then catches the de-bulged cases as they come out the top. You could capture them with your fingers instead, but this lets you work a little faster.

It's actually identical to their lead bullet sizers, except for using the carbide ring instead of a steel die.

I use my 40S&W Lee FCD with the pusher only (I am cheap) as bulge buster when loading 357sig. I use a little bit of case lube and it makes the operation much smoother. Best $2.75 I spent for the pusher since I already had the FCD. You still need to resize after using the bulge buster.

That's how I do it. I don't use that silly red catch container thingy. I just grab 'em as they come out the top.

Put my Glock 29sf to work today out at the range. Also whored up a bunch of 40Cal brass while I was there - my range neighbor today wasn't a loader. (I recondition 40 S&W brass that I procure - even though I don't own a 40.)

Anyway, point is, I've got some bulge bustin' in my near future.
