Leaving "home"

Well guys and gals, I am soon (next Mon. 7/10) leaving my sleepy little town in Nebraska, heading (temporarily - length of time undetermined at this point) for Florida. While I love living in NE, (can't really picture living anywhere else except maybe somewhere the pheasant, quail, prairie chicken, turkey, deer, etc. hunting is better, IS there such a place?) a combination of factors (mostly financial) is making this move necessary. Among other things, the drought in the midwest has really slowed down construction in the rural areas (I am a carpenter) and things are starting to get a little tight, but at least I haven't had to sell any of my guns yet. Will be leaving the wife, kids and dog here, damn, I miss them already. Have a job and place to stay lined up, and will start framing a house less than 12 hours after I get off the plane.
Anyway, looks like I am going to have to leave my "toys" at home (for now, might bring some down later, or purchase something there) as I will be working long hours, am completely unfamiliar with the area, and will have limited access to transportation. Geez, I hate to think of going a couple months without doing some shooting. I also will have limited access to the net, so I am going to miss this place too. The 15 months I've been a member have been a real pleasure.
That is where you guys come in. Is there anybody in the Orlando area that can recommend a range with rentals? good gunshops? or perhaps some fellow TFLer would care to meet somewhere? If anybody would be able to help me out with some info, post it here or e-mail me. If anybody would be willing to meet sometime in the next month or two, e-mail me your contact info so I can take it with me. I don't know if I will have time to do anything, but I would like to have some options if the opportunity arises.
Thanks,
take care,
later,
bergie

Well, Florida's a trifle short on prairie chickens. Lotsa quail, deer, turkey and hogs.

Orlando has an IPSC club, and probably an IDPA club as well. You can always search their sites.

Okay: For IPSC, Patrick Battistello, http://www.cfpsa.org is a contact.

Also, check out George's "gunsmith" thread here; sooner or later, good names will show up.

Some of the websites for shooting supplies will list Orlando-area folks...

Florida is a CHL state, although they don't yet recognize other states' licenses, much. But, if you'll be there long enough for residency and get a Florida driver's license...

Hope this helps,

Take care and God's grace, bergie. I will pray for you and safety and provision for your family in your absence.

Have someone send you one of your "toys" after you get there. If I'm not mistaken Fla. has a provision for visitors to abtain a Handgun Permit. My father in law has one, and he is from New Jersey. Check it out. You'll need a gun more in Fla than Neb.

Dang Bergie, I just read your Email and came here to see what was up. You know you will be missed here during your absence.
While in FL though they do have non-resident CHL so that should be no problem. They have a shameful shortage of sporting birds but did you read FUD's gator story. ;)
Have you thought of giving your wife your pass word or asking her to register here as member to give us periodic up dates?
Good luck. You are definitely "one of the good guys".

Wo!! Being the end-product of an Aussie education, I just had to look up a map of the USA. That's a l-o-n-g way from home, bergie!

Take care (that means "keep your bloody eyes open!!") and get back safely to your family.

Best wishes
