im gonna be moving to Atlanta for a few months to help my brother with a start up buisness. How long do i have to live there before i can buy a firearm/ also i will be comming back after four or five months. Is it legal to bring that firearm with me as long as its legal to own here? Just curious.

ATM,

You and your brother be REALLY CAREFUL in Atlanta. It's pretty dangerous. If the weapon you are purchasing IS legal in Kali, then you should be able to bring it back with you. But I would CHECK with your favorite gun shop BEFORE you leave Kali.

If you drive and bring it back that way, check the states along the way. As it's the south, I doubt you will have any problems with all those 'pick up truck driving, gun rack, rebel flag waving' rednecks. I should know, I used to be one.

If FLYING, ship it from one firearms dealer in Atlanta to one in Kali. EVERY arline I'm aware of put REALLY LARGE BRIGHT ORANGE 'WARNING, FIREARMS ENCLOSED' type stickers.

A buddy of mine had four collectable 1911 (pre WWII) that were stolen from a LOCKED CASE (they CUT the lock off). The airlines liability? $200 per firearm. His wife even worked for the airline he traveled on. He got screwed, big time. So be careful.

That's stupid, that's like wearing a T-shirt saying "I'm caring cash" in a bad part of New York. Why can't they just make sure they are unloaded and place them as simple checked bagage. But on the other hand, they could make undercover cops wear large stickers saying "Warning: Undercover Cop" Better yet, why arn't armored cars painted floresent orange, why arn't cop car's painted floresent orange? Even more interesting, why arn't rail cars carrying high explosives painted floresent orange? BECAUSE YOU DON"T WANT TO DRAW ATTENTION TO IT

C&R question

I just applied for a C&R. would this let me bring C&R rifles back to california with less hastle or can i mail them to myself from Atlanta. :D

California is a big change compared to Georgia. I moved from Orange County to Georgia about 2 years ago. To answer your question, once you obtain a drivers license you can legally purchase a firearm. Once you acquire your license you can then apply for a CCW from your local county Sheriff. With a CCW you can purchase any firearm without the cool off period like California.

One of the first things I did after obtaining my drivers license and CCW was to purchase a suppressor. From the time I applied to the ATF for my special stamp and the day I was able to pick up my suppressor was less than 3 months! Another thing bring firearms from GA back to CA. I can see there being an issue with the dreaded Assault Weapons or Class III weapons, but what's the big deal with handguns. I know that CA has an approved gun list but how the heck would they know and why would they care if you brought XX gun from GA to CA? To me it all comes down to don't ask don't tell.

Dude, I traveled to CA several times with a Firearm checked in my luggage. The one state which I have had problems with every time was CA, specifically John Wayne Airport. The TSA's there are completely ignorant of the rules regarding traveling with a firearm. Once the TSA pulled me from the counter, had me open my suitcase and show him my gun right in front of other passengers. When I showed him my gun he had me secure it back in my locked container and then told me that I had to leave my suitcase unlocked! I was absolutely shocked that he would tell me this. I told him that is not what the regulations are and he insisted that I had to leave it off, he even said that if I did not cooperate that he would contact a LEO. By this time a small crowd of people were amassing around us. To make a long story short I refused to leave my suitcase unlocked and he did call one of the OC Sheriff's to speak with me. After some discussion a TSA supervisor was called and informed of the situation and my unwillingness to cooperate. The supervisor obviously had more knowledge on this matter and settled the situation appropriately. I didn't even receive so much as a sorry from the TSA agent who hassled me. Now a days when I absolutely need to travel with a gun I Fedex it to whatever location I will be staying at.

Mac,

What are FEDEX rules on shipping firearms? I cannot for the life of me find any references with their web site's search system. I sent my last one UPS and that was $40 for the required overnight air.

Wallew posted the following in this thread:

"EVERY arline I'm aware of put REALLY LARGE BRIGHT ORANGE 'WARNING, FIREARMS ENCLOSED' type stickers."

That is COMPLETELY WRONG and out-of-date information. A large orange tag is still employed, but it CANNOT, **BY LAW** be visible on the outside of the container holding the firearms. For more details on how to transport firearms by air, go here:

The information here is accurate, and kept UP TO DATE!!

I wonder how fedex would tell if you were shipping a gun anyway.. Do they X-ray all the boxes that they ship?
