Leatherwood Scopes

Awhile back there was a discussion about the quality of the leatherwood scopes. I have an ART on my M1A supermatch. it took some time to setup and zero but it works fine. I put it on my Savage 110BA .338 Lapua Mag, re-zeroed and it shot well too. don't usually swap scopes around I just wanted to see if the Leatherwood would take the Lapua punishment - it did. The scope seems to be well made. Its a good scope for my supermatch and delivers good groupings at 600 meters.. why 600 meters? because thats the range limitation where we shoot..

I have no experience with the new leatherwood scopes. However I did use them quite a bit in the 70s and 80s on the M-21 system. (ART Leatherwoods).


I found they worked quite well on M14s out to 900 yards. They held a zero and they maintained the zero after being taken off and put back on the rifle (although that had more to do with the mounts).


When introduced in SE Asia the M-21 spent less time on the average in maintance shops then did the Marines M-40 system.

Like I said, I don't know about the quality of todays Leatherwoods.
 
The original ARTs were made by Redfield if memory serves.

Not sure which plant is cranking out the new Leatherwoods.
