Leather conditioner for crossbreed holster

Recieved my crossbreed holster and the directions say to use a cream type leather conditioner on it. Does anyone have and specific recommendations for something that will work well and won't make it stick/tacky, won't hurt the finish on my gun and won't gunk it up? Also do you have to be careful to keep it off the kydex portion?

I use Kiwi Mink Oil on my leather holsters. The cannister says it is for all colors.
The can further states it conditions, waterproofs smooth leather. It is not for delicate or suede leather. It may cause light color leathers to darken.

I have not noticed anything to be concerned about with contact with my guns. It does not leave any gunk or any other type of residue that I can detect.

I've used Pecard's dressing for years, and I've been very happy with it. Apply liberally, rub it in, let it sit overnight, then buff with a dry towel, and you should be good.

While I wouldn't leave it on the kydex, I don't see it harming it.

good conditioner

I've had great luck with a product called Lexol. It was originally intended for tack and harnesses, but works fine on any/all leather. Not for suede, however.

I have a really noisy Galco. I'm thinking of buying some 'Leather Lightning' for it. Haven't tried it before but have heard good things about it.

I'm pretty sure that Lexol is not to be used on suede, but they may have a suede product.

I've used Lexol for years on various leather items. Like it quite a bit.

Galco Draw-EZ holster treatment

I haven't used either product but now that I've found them I'm going to order some.

I have used Lexol in the past with great success as well.

I think if you use too much neats-foot oil on leather, it weakens the fibers of the leather. Occassional use should be fine

Mink oil is the best. I have used it on belts. leather jackets, boots. ball gloves. I need to do my 1907 sling when i think about it. Guess i should get some more mink oil.
After it is conditioned you may need a stiff course brush to rough the surface a bit as mink oil smooth the fibers a bit

What would you use for the inside of a new unlined holster to soften it up a bit and help the break in without softening the holster too much?

Alot of holster makers Ive seen say never to use those types of products on the holsters as it will make them to soft and cause the hoster to loose it rention properties.. I know you can go to www.leather-milk.com this stuff works wonders Ive used it on boots and whatnot and love it..

this forum is wonderful

This forum is wonderful.

Just by reading this discussion I found out about several types of leather care products that I had not previously heard of. (I've got lots of leather coats and holsters and boots and belts and etc. and I like to take care of them so they last forever)

I've been a member here for years and I find this all the time, about all sorts of things. Post a query looking for information and (usually) you get all sorts of interesting and useful replies, often in a very short time.
