Least Powerful .44 Mag Ammo?

Does anyone know what factory .44 magnum ammo is the weakest, as far as putting the least wear on your gun over the years (at the range)? Thanks.

Big fan of.....

PMC 240 gr. semiwadcutters in mine. fairly light load and cheap to boot.
Only about $15 per box as opposed to $22+ for the high octane stuff ;)

Still prefer to carry full power loads when hunting or in bear country and, on rare occasions, when my Smith accompanies me into "unsavory" areas.

Any common brand-name factory semi-wadcutter lead load is a moderated load and not far above the .44 Special if at all. Likewise any of the "cowboy" lead loads. Only problem you'll have with these might be leading in the barrel.

Definitely.

Generally have plenty of leading. Not enough that a thorough cleaning can't take care of, but enough to be irritating. Certainly more than jacketed or even semi-jacketed ammo. PMC also makes some jacketed stuff but not sure of the loading. If you clean often, then leading won't be a big problem. Just my .02

The least powerful ammo to shoot in your .44 Magnum...

Would be any variety of .44 Special loads. Unless you're shooting a .44 Magnum Desert Eagle, any .44 Special ammo will chamber and fire in the .44 Magnum gun without any problems. ;)

Cor Bon makes a carry load for the 44 mag...165 grain Sierra JHP at 1300FPS, it's the equivalent of the best 165+P loads for a 45 ACP and very manageable in a full size revolver.

I would recommend shooting some .44 Special if this is your concern. This will put you in a muzzle energy range of about 300 to 400 ft/lbs. Just about any factory .44 Magnum load is going to put you in the range of about 750 to 950 ft/lbs.

I am not sure if there is any reason to go out of your way to select a "44 Magnum Light" load to save the gun wear and tear. The odds will simply be that you will be paying $10 extra per box for something which may only have little less punch.

I shoot PMC 240 gr TCSP. It has about 900 ft/lbs of energy at the muzzle. Plus I buy it all day long for $13.99 per box at Vance's Shooters Supply.
