Are there any restrictions in selling a BB gun? I know a long gun or hand gun must either go through an FFL or person can fill the paperwork out themselves. But, is this neccessary for a BB gun?

Unless you're living in a state governed by Democrats, then you're incorrect about the restrictions on long guns and handguns.

That's kind of what I was thinking AB. If my business wasn't rooted in this state, man would I head north to NH in a heartbeat. Can't buy half of the guns out there cause they're not on some silly list and the ones I can buy are neutered.

Here in NJ, BB guns are regulated as firearms. So any transfer of a BB gun would require the same requirements as transferring a firearm.

A few years ago, a mayor here in NJ got arrested for shooting at tin cans in his back yard with a BB gun--for unlawful discharge of a firearm.

When paintball guns initially came out, they were also treated as firearms, until a court case changed that--the state attorney general could not justify the classification of paintball guns as firearms due to the lack of clear language in the law. Now paintball guns are simply toys (but can only be sold to 18 and over).

I think the buyer will be out of state, so I hope I'm clear of all that. I will ask my local dealer tomorrow to make sure.

State laws is where you need to look. It is legal to sell a hand gun person to person here, you can find them for sale in the newspaper.

WOW! Learn something new everyday. That is unbelievable restrictive.

Do you need to go thru a FFL to buy a BB gun where you are? BB and pellet guns can be mailed to most places. We had a pellet pistol come to our door last year.
Unless your a youngster your not going to need a ID here

Not a Federal issue

BB guns are not under BATFE (yet). Any transfer or possession issues will be a function of state law.

This thread has been an education for me. I never would have thought twice about a BB gun.

Good grief Charlie Brown, what's next, Nerf guns, water pistols?
