LCR for plinking?

I know the LCR in .38+p is small and light but it has a surprisingly good trigger and ergonomics. Does it rise to the level of fun plinking? How about with warmer loads and +p?

I think it's a really fun gun. I run a 148 gr dewc at 800-850 fps and I really like that load. I'll shoot a couple hundred of those each range trip. As far as any +p loads go! I've ran a box of 50 Remington 125 gr +p's in one sitting. I seriously doubt I'll do that again.

God nor man has ever built a snub revolver that I would "enjoy" for plinking. Between the annoying recoil impulse & small sights of most and the horribly short sight radius for all snub revolvers, it's almost the textbook opposite what I enjoy on a range day for pleasure.

I love revolvers. Love 'em! But snub revolvers are mostly lost on me. I don't find them attractive in looks or use. I can absolutely respect the folks who enjoy them and hold them as prizes. I have even more respect for those that shoot them well, as those folks are rare. Truly, I get that. But for me? I don't own one and I don't see any in my future.

But I only speak for myself.

Several members here have reported they "plink" at extended ranges (100 yards plus) with a snub nose.
I would too if - I had a place to do it & owned a snub nose!

I have a LCR and love it, but I wouldnt consider it a plinking gun. With that being said I put my hands on the new LCRx (w/hammer) and that with a fiber optic sight would be a fun plinking gun. I think I'm gonna get one! :D

I enjoy my LCR as a plinker. Even with the old CCI Blazer Aluminum 158 gr SWCHP +P rounds I happened into two cases of real cheap before ammogeddon.
I'll soon be working up a cast bullet load just for plinking with the Ruger for friends and family that are more bothered by the recoil of hotter loads.

A lightweight snub-nosed revolver with +p ammo and fun plinking is what many folks call an oxymoron. Kinda like truly enjoying a cross country two-up ride on a rigid framed motorcycle.

I got my LCR357 at least 3 years ago. I put 3000 rounds or more through it. Full house 357s are a handfull so I don't shoot them a lot. I had 7000 rounds of mid range 357 Loaded so that is what I shot the most. As far as a plinking gun 38+P is a lot of fun. I could plink with that all day. It is also very accurate.

I had a .357 LCR and used it for carry . . but only shot .357 maybe once . . I'm an old fart . . my hands don't like abuse. I shot a lot of target grade 38 spls through it and for up close plinking, it was fine - I'm talking SD range. Mine certainly wasn't a "long range plinker". It's a nice revolver and I own a number of Rugers. That said, I traded mine off and now carry a S & W Model 36. It too, is a nice handgun . . but for "plinking" . . . I much prefer my Pre 15 Combat Masterpiece with the 4" barrel or my pre-10 with a 5" barrel. To me, a snub is made for up close SD . . . yes, you need to practice but for myself, plinking at longer ranges with one just doesn't make a whole lot of sense.

I too am an old fart, and look upon the LCR (and any snubby for that matter) as an "up close and personal" gun, and not a plinker.

I have the crimson trace laser on mine, and plinking is tons of fun with it
I don't mind the recoil, but then, I don't shoot hundreds of rounds like some of these other fellas... I usually bring a couple other guns, not just one per outing.
If it starts to bother me, I swap out to a .22 or so...

a snub nose is hardly a plinking gun in center fire.

I have a LCR .22lr as a training, kit, plinking gun. thats all I will use it for without dire circumstances. this is because it is a rimfire and has a built in lock; neither of which are at the top of the list for a self defense handgun.
