Does anyone have any idea what the "life expectancy" in terms of round count? Assuming one uses factory +P .38 defense ammo?

Thanks,

If used in a defensive situation, and using 38 +P ammunition I would hope that with good shot placement the bad guys life expectancy would one round.:)

When the LCR was just out I put 5300 rounds of mostly +P .38s through a test sample.

Slight frame stretching & slight increase in barrel/cylinder gap.
Wore some of the logo off the rubber grip.
Still within specs.

Gun actually shot better at the end than at the beginning.

Ruger said they'd gone 10,000 on a couple samples, still shootable.

I can't claim a high round count for my LCR, maybe 1000 or 1200 rounds or so. I can tell you it's been a great little revolver. I am working on loading up another thousand rounds to put through it. I show it no mercy and I know that if it ever does have an issue Ruger will stand behind it. The same can be said for Smith, but I prefer the trigger pull on the LCR.

I can't speak for the 38, I haven't gotten one yet. I do have a 22lr LCR and I really like it. Hopefully they will do a 22lr with the exposed hammer, maybe a 22mag cylinder too.

The question is the reverse of what it should be. You should be asking how many rounds you will fire from the gun. Do you plan to shoot 100 rounds a week? 100 a month? 500 a week? Or fire part of a box and keep the gun in the bureau drawer for twenty years? And will that be light wadcutters, or standard velocity, or +P, or +P+, or super hot handloads?
