We'll I posted a while ago about trading my sks for ria m206 but was thankfully talked out of it.today I went to my legs and got a great deal I swapped my sks for a nice lcr in 38+P...but wait what is that you have a matching one in stock for my wife you will also knock all the tax and fees off if I want it???so yes I ended up getting a even trade for one LCR and got a second one for 350 OTD for my wife..anyway how did I do here good deal or not??also what 38 ammo would you recommend to carry in such a short barrel revolver??i ussually use critical duty in all my guns but not sure of that's the best for a short barrel..thanks

The current hot ticket is Speer 135 grain for short barrels. That's what is in my wife's gun and my spare house gun. 158grain LSWCHP+P has a proven track record. I'd be fine with either.

Do you reload?

I cast Lee 105 grainers for practice and use Hornady XTPs either 115 or 125 grain for SD. The lighter bullet lessens the recoil for my mom for her airweight and I use the same load for a Davis derringer with no pain.

I was wondering about the xtp in the snub I have a box of 158 grain xtp but wasn't sure how it would perform in a short barrel..I like what I read about the Speer ammo as soon as I find some in stock I think I will grab a box

Ammunition choice is one of the things IMhO we spend waaaaay too much time over-thinking.

Would YOU like to get hit with a 158 grain XTP? (Doubt it)

Try your gun with a variety to see first of all what YOU are comfortable shooting. No matter what it is I’d believe it has SOME value for self defense.

There is a youtube video of a guy shooting himself in the leg with a .45 ACP during a draw. Despite the awesome reputation of the .45 he is not instantly incapacitated and even goes on a bit with his video. That and some other info have led me to NOT believe in the magic ammunition theory.

Again, get what you can handle.

Even though it is not magic I don’t think there is anything significantly better than one of the previous suggestions of the Speer. Get more info about it here:

Thanks for the ammo suggestions.and I agree we do spend to much time debating ammo I wouldn't want to get hit by any round from any gun that's for sure.anyway for just a few more questions I was wondering if anyone knows if there are any full size grips available for the lcr yet for some range duty?i know this is still a relatively new gun and the aftermarket is expanding daily but just curios ?
Also what about range on this,i know this is designed to be a less than 10 yard self defense handgun but just for grins what is the furthest you believe you would be as to stretch this out with all the right circumstances permitting while maintaining some degree of accuracy??
