LCP Custom?

Hey guys! I'm in the market for a Ruger LCP (Lightweight Compact Pistol) but am unsure as to what variant to buy.

I know that Ruger has updated the LCP to sort of a "version 2", with improved sights and a better trigger. However, I also see that Ruger now has an LCP Custom model out. It has a red skelotonized trigger, "photoluminscent" sights, and some other odds n' ends.

Here it is: http://www.ruger.com/products/lcp/specSheets/3740.html

Do you think I should get this model over the standard LCP? Will it be with the increase in price, or not? It has "photoluminescent" AKA glow in the dark sights, that seems borederline cheesy, kind of like a white trash version of tritium night sights. Are they good though? I'm especially interested in those who own or have shot the LCP Custom. Thanks so much for your help, and have a great day! :D

Glow in the dark sights on a pocket pistol are ridiculous. They need light to glow. The trigger is unnecessary. As a matter of fact, the Ruger itself is unnecessary-as Keltecs are readily available.

Seems like they are asking for an extra $100 or more for a funny looking red trigger. I wouldn't pay that much. I also noticed it comes with only 1 mag. I would want at least 2 at that price, maybe 3.

Yeah I think glow-in-the-dark sights are sort of cheap, oh excuse me! I mean "photoluminescent" sights are cheap LOL!

But do the other features make this model worth it?

I bought my LCP about a year after they came out.A CT laser was added to increase usefulness and accuracy.I practice a lot,and this combo has been 100% reliable and dependable for it's purpose. :D

I recently sold my LCP to my brother when I bought a Glock 42. I had a Viridian light mounted to it. The LCP is great for it's intended use, which is a small deep concealment pistol. I only sold my LCP because most of my other pistols are Glocks, and I like that now all of my main carry and HD pistols operate the same and have the same trigger pull/feel so to speak.

I did look at the LCP Custom awhile back at my LGS, and I didn't see any real world useful upgrades at all over the standard LCP. I wasn't impressed with the so called "upgrades", which seem to amount to a red trigger and a different sight setup. I felt that they were a waste of time and money.

Now, if Ruger would make a LCPs like they did with the LC9 and LC9s, I think that they would have a real winner. The LC9s has a great trigger, much better than the hammer fired LC9. That would be worth the extra $ IMO.

Eeek. No. I know I shouldn't take it personally, but I'm almost offended that this is what they call an upgrade, when there are plenty of things they could have done to legitimately improve it. Real tritium sights, for one, or a trigger polish. I can't remember if the LCP has a magazine disconnect, but if it does, they could remove it along with the LCI. Those would make it worth an extra $100; as it actually is... no.

I've been flirting with the idea of picking up a pocket .380 myself, so I have looked at the LCP fairly hard. If I decide on the LCP, I intend to get the version with the stainless slide, but not the Custom version. I just don't see the upgrades as significant improvements.

I sincerely hope that no one at Ruger got a bonus for the idea of making the trigger red.

"The original LCP is fine for what the LCP is intended for. "
Thanks! Care to elaborate? Is the LCP Custome superior? Price is no limit.

I concluded, after owning one for a bit, that the LCP is a specialized gun, intended to be carried when anything else is too big to carry. It doesn't matter that it's not fun to shoot, or that the trigger is long.

I have a stainless slide version of the "2nd Gen" and it has proven to be 100% reliable. I don't understand the custom model. This is a pocket gun, not a competitive shooting pistol.

I just picked up the standard LCP with a Lasermax for $320. Trigger is fine. Don't need any more than that.

I have the second gen and he trigger is awesome!!
With me it came down to carrying something - or not.
I don't even know its there.

It comes down to: If you like bells and whistles. Your not getting less gun for your money.

I got the standard LCP.
It does exactly what it is suppose to do.
What it is suppose to do does not require special triggers or lasers.

Bed side gun maybe, but there are a zillion better options for that role.

DING DING DING WE HAVE A WINNER!!!!::D
My 1st generation Elsie Pea is fine just the way it came. It's a point and shoot pocket pistol that with some practice doesn't even need the minuscule sights it came with to have acceptable accuracy at the range it's intended to be used.
I never understood the criticism of the trigger, or the complaints about it not being "comfortable" to shoot. My regular practice time with it is usually between 50, and 100 rounds with no ill effect on my hand.

You might find this older thread interesting. It details the differences between the 'gen 1' LCP and the 'gen 2' LCP.

I guess the sights are a dead give away between the two and the 'gen 2' supposedly has a better trigger.

I'd have to look for the dash in the serial number (the gen1 version has a dash in the serial number, the gen2 version does not have the dash) to tell the difference between the two. Public opinion seems to be against the multicolored 'custom'...your choice I guess.

Yeah IMHO it looks nothing short of retarded.

I was wondering if the gun would actually be and shoot better though, it's obvious now it probably isn't an improvement at all.
