LCP Custom Sights

I may have my edc carry pocket pistol narrowed down to the LCP or the LCP Custom. My biggest concern on the Custom is the raised sights. Do they pose a problem on the draw from a pocket holster in any way? If not I can't think of a reason to get the LCP over the Custom.

I've owned both. I sold my Custom to get a stainless gen2.

Don't let anyone tell you otherwise-the triggers are exactly the same. The custom is just metal. The pull and weight is the same.

The sights aren't a huge big of a deal in adding overall height to the pistol. I didn't think they were snag prone.

This may or may not be true now, but the custom front sight did have an issue of falling off for a few people. Ruger replaced the whole upper when this happened. Strange.

I carry a custom every day in an Uncle Mikes size 1 pocket holster. Great pocket gun. The glow in the dark paint in the front sight is useless so I put a dot of bright white paint in the hole to make it more visible. I carry it every day and I have no problem drawing it from the holster.

I still like my Custom, even though the glow part of the front sight "disappeared " on mine as well.

I wasn't aware they were still selling the Custom, but with the improved trigger on the regular Gen 2 that's what I would get. You need a bigger holster to accommodate the taller Custom sights, and they can snag.

I have had several lcp's over the past few years and my new Ruger lcp 2 is far better than the older models, IMHO. The trigger is by far the best and the sights are great. It also has last shot hold open which I think is one of the best features on the pistol. No matter which lcp you get you won't be disappointed. If you get the old model don't forget to buy the Hogue handall grip. It makes a world of difference, to me anyway. For my lcp2 I purchased the Talon wrap around grip. Not as easy to install as the Hogue but totally worth it. I carry mine appendix in a Tagua holster.

I appreciate the input. As I read the older reviews on the LCP I find most shooters loved it, bad trigger & all. The Custom & the Gen II are upgrades, but I'm wondering if I might be just as happy with the basic LCP. Ruger apparently sells a lot of them. One thing I've read is the trigger on the LCP can pinch the trigger finger. Is this a common problem or has it been overblown? I will admit I'm leaning toward the LCP. I l like the idea of the long trigger pull on that one. It may not be as ez to master, but I figure it would give me a lot more confidence that it wouldn't go bang sitting on it.

Here's a good thread about the LCP and the various improvements made to it.
https://thefiringline.com/forums/showthread.php?t=520514&highlight=lcp+ii&page=2

I got so interested in the LCP that I put together the following:

1. Original LCP 2008-2012
2. Next LCP 2013-2015--bigger sights, different trigger, no dash in serial number.
3. 'Custom' LCP--Big Red Trigger (BRT), even bigger sights.
4. LCP II--2016 to ???. Hold open after last shot fired. Safety lever built into trigger is easiest way to visually identify the LCP II. (Besides of course the big 'LCP II' printed on the side of the slide.)

FWIW in Gander Mountain (which is kind of going out of business) had an original LCP for $150. This was last spring, June '17. Cabela's has the no dash LCP usually for $200 and had a sale a couple months ago where they went for $180.

Another thing the newer LCPII has 6 round mags but the custom and the Gen two can use ruger 7 round mags too along with the 6 rounders.

..decisions, decisions. I've always had a tough time with that. .. probably could pick any one of the recently manufactured li'l guys and be happy. But like DaleA's link shows folks are happy with even the base LCPs. ..not knocking the Custom nor the II at all, nor have I decided which flavor of the 3 will soon ride in my back pocket holster, but I gotta admit I'm leaning toward a Flat Dark Earth basic LCP. I'll fret a bit more though. Whatever I end up with I figure I'll be happy. It's almost like you can't go wrong with this li'l pistol.

I am, and have always been completely satisfied with my early dash SN gen 1 LCP. It fulfills all needs for it's intended purpose. Sights? What sights, they aren't necessary.
We're not talking bullseye competition, we're talking pocket CCW gun.

Great! I've read many an excellent review on the Custom & the Gen II, but I can also say the same on the LCP. It may have a bit longer trigger pull, a narrower grip, a bit less refined trigger, a little less weight up front with its plastic guide rod, less grip texture, less pronounced sights & a few other differences, but the fotm is I still think it's a great little work of art. I put one in my back pocket at my local gun shop the other day & even with the trigger lock attached it felt not much more than my wallet. ..with a pocket holster maybe a fat wallet. The two things I think I might not like on the Gen II is the fatter grip & the lighter trigger. .. just me. I know it's not much of a difference, but I get a bit nervous carrying one in the chamber with what amounts to a sa trigger. And I know the grip's not much wider but it is wider. Every little bit counts at least for me. I'll have to study the Custom vs the LCP a bit more. ..maybe get a few more opinions & then spend some coin. Can't wait to take one o' these li'l gems to the range, get to know it a little better & put this CC License to good use.

Quick - - everyone rush to a window facing East and see if there's a big star rising!
Cheap and I agree on something 100% for the second time in as many weeks!
Last time an event like that happened a big old star rose in the Eastern sky ;).

(jk)

But - yeah, -what sights?

In the real world - the LCP is a belly gun. Darned handy one in a fairly respectable caliber - but - a belly gun none the less.

Not too long ago I decided I had to have an LCP. Why not? I didn't have one, never had.

I looked at the old standard LCP and the new improved, with the trigger thingey, and decided I couldn't see a hundred bucks? difference between the two. For what I would use it for, good trigger, and nice sights aren't necessary. Point and shoot.

I'm not a pocket carry guy so I got a Don Hume J.I.T. holster for mine. I've come a long way from an XD-9, and a Colt Commander.

Hal, that's one hilarious post! ..love it. ..sorry to say it but shopping's half the fun for this ol' bird. Yeah, I may be making this call a little harder than it might be for someone else, but when I finally do pull the trigger so to speak I'll be just that much happier. If Ruger didn't make so many dang good offerings it'd be a lot easier making up one's mind. I own 2 of the best .357 mag revolvers ever made & they are both Ruger. I'll never part with either. The same will be said of this li'l pocket pistol. But I do love your post. ..good stuff.

Ok. ..just got back from Scheels & they have the LCP. The salesman let me dry fire it along with the Smith & Wesson Bodyguard. ..no contest. The Ruger is much better. I like the LCP trigger just fine. Maybe it's my inexperience but it felt perfect to me for a pocket pistol. .. seemed smooth yet took enough effort to give me the confidence the bang switch will probably never go off accidentally. It may only be a .380 & it may not be practical for anything but up close & personal, but IT WILL! get carried when I otherwise wouldn't. It's like they say, when you need it a .380 in the pocket is better'n a .45 @ home in the sock drawer. I'll probably carry either my Ruger Snubby or Sig 9 @ night when I'm more relaxed, but during the day when I'm more active I figure this li'l gem will be just the ticket. I'll spend a bit more for the Flat Dark Earth cerracote finish, but it'll be a darned cute little addition to my modest collection. I appreciate the input/your links in helping with this call.

Yep - me too!
I tried the LCP II and I liked the LCP's trigger a lot better.
Same with the plain old little bumps of nothing the LCP has for sights.

The little LCP rides perfect in an ankle holster under my sweat pants.

I'm working on some sort of holster I can stick inside a shoulder bag where I can carry my oxygen concentrator & my LCP. Until I get that worked out, the ankle holster is just the ticket.

10-4 on "the plain old little bumps of nothing the LCP has for sights." They may not be much but @ the same x are just one less thing to get hung-up on. ..one less thing to think about. In a quick draw, right on top of me, sd encounter I want everything I have to do to be as simple as possible. I guess I'll be breaking that rule by going with a semi-auto, but no revolver out there will ride in my pocket (or, who knows, maybe I'll find somewhere else to put it) like this li'l guy. The trigger was my biggest concern & heck I actually got the giggles pulling it @ my lgs I was so pleasantly surprised.
