Lazzeroni short magnum questions...

MAD DOG

I am interested in these because they *seem* to be what the WSMs should have been, in that they have no odious rebated rim AND no belt. I have no experience with them though.
Lazzeroni's website is pretty weal on technical data for the cartridge dimensions and such.
http://www.lazzeroni.com/

1) What is the cartridge that the short magnums are based on?
.404 Jeffries? .416 Rigby? Other?
Bolt face size?

2) Anyone have any experience with the cartridges?
Accuracy? Brass life?

3) Barrel life in the .308 and .338 calibers?
They appear to be a smidge over bored, but hey, with those velocities, it may be worth it...

They are located in Tucson, so I may just trot down there and check out their offerings.
Apparently, they are using Remington :barf: Sako and Savage actions, so I am most curious as to whether it would be worthwhile making up a controlled feed rifle in one of these calibers.

Who told you that WSM has a belted case? And what is wrong with a rebated rim? Virtually ever modern rifle cartridge has a rim like this. It allows a cartridge to fit a wide variety of firearms.

Lazzeroni cartridge is unique and does not use any other case as a base design. It's not a wildcat. The case has extremely thick walls, a overall diameter of .580 inches and is made by Bell Brass in Las Vegas.

No one told me that the WSM has a belt, not did I say it did.
The attraction of the WSM was supposed to be that it was short, fat and beltless, much like my prom date. :D
The reality was that Winchester shortchanged us by getting lazy on the bolt face/cartridge interface, and rebating the rim. GRRRR>
Modern rifle cartrides have r imless cases, but seldom if ever have they been subjected to rebated rims DUE TO RELIABILITY ISSUES.

I object to the WSM's rebated rim as being excremental in concept and execution for controlled feed weapons and BEST reliability.
If you have some range only paper poker like a Remington, then fine, you might as well have a rebated rim too.

SO>>>> Does anyone have any hands on EXPERIENCE with them?
Evidently, they use a number 14 shell holder.
What other cases use that size?

Must...get..to ...reloading...manual...

Got this from John Lazzeroni by email:

All of our short and long magnum cartridges are beltless and they do NOT use rebated rims, for Lazzeroni calibers .264 and larger ( Lazz caliber 6.71 (.264)
Phantom is being replaced by Lazz caliber 6.71 (.264) Scorpion which uses the larger case ,,,,, Base diameters are .580" (max) ,,,, shoulder diameter .560" ,,, all use 30 degree shoulders,, all long magnum headspace guages are the same,,, all short magnum headspace guages are the same (( for
Lazz calibers .264 and larger ))

long magnum brass is 2.800" with a loaded max OAL of 3.640" ,,,,

short magnum brass is 2.050 " long with a short magnum loaded max OAL of
2.780" ,,,,

I have seen them chambered in the Winchester action along with the big Ruger controlled feed action,,,, (( the one they use for the .416 Rigby )))) but I am not privy to the exact details of how to make the Winchester action work properly and feed,,,

let me know if you have any further questions,,
