Laws in Hawaii

Hello Everyone,

I'm getting ready to go on my honeymoon to Hawaii (specifically Maui) and had a question.

What are the local laws governing the possession and carry of handguns and knives?

What are the specific limitations (i.e., blade length, opening type, etc.) on knives?

If no one knows, does anyone know of a website that would tell me?

Thanks for the help.

This is what I found on a search don't know if it will help or not but you can look at it.

Hope you have fun on your honeymoon in Hawaii with gun or without. It is a beautiful place, I won a Missouri lottery trip over there in 1995 and I always said if I ever get back I would never come back here.

I live in Honolulu. You might as well not bring your handgun sorry to say. Hawaii gun laws are as bad as Kalifornia, maybe worse in some respects. There is NO concealed carry, although the lawbooks say permits are discretionary...you had better know the Governor, Chief and Mayor to get one. If you do choose to carry you are on your own if caught and don't bring any mags with a capacity over ten you will just make it worse on yourself.

Knives are OK in ANY length, but automatic and double edged daggers are prohibited. Folders and fixed blades are fine.

In Honolulu, which has a much higher incidence of violent crime, I feel OK with a 4" Microtech folder and an ASP Kuboton/Pepper spray. In most tourist areas you will be fine & pretty secure, especially off Oahu. The exception currently is Kauai, which is usually very quiet but several women have recently disappeared off the beaches there and if I was to vacation there I would carry discretly at the moment.

I read the page and it sounds more like a communist country than a state in the U.S.
I hope you enjoy your honeymoon. That is where my wife and I went for our honeymoon. If you get the chance you should bike the crater. It is stunningly beautiful.

Was told but MPower would know more than I do that Hawaii doesn't allow for any more guns to be imported into that state. What they have, they can keep. But no more than that! Thus, if something new comes out, they can only dream about it. Y'know, there may be something to that independence movement over there.

Can anybody tell us about Guam (it's a U.S. Protectorate).

Actually Gary, this is thankfully untrue. We have been actually getting the latest out there pretty quick. I remeber seeing HK SL8 and USCarbines before a lot of the mainland guys. The dealers are mostly small though and will not import without a paid order. If we could not bring in hardware I would be REAL UPSET!
I hear Guam is actually a real mecca for firearms. (My GF is from there) There are ranges there that rent everything from a Sig 551 to Barrett 50 and there is quite a bit of Class 3 there. The Japanese who are prohibited from Firearms access often go there to "experience" firearms and hence there is a lot of $$$ there for firearms related business, we have that here too but our laws make a considerably poorer experience, mostly indoor small caliber ranges.

BTW Enjoy your honeymoon!
