I'm in Ohio and I buy about 30K rounds a year and it's all mail order. Never heard otherwise unless your talking something thats not legal.

It's ok to buy ammo by mail in Ohio. I do it all the time. The seller may require a photo of your driver's license as proof of age though. cheaperthandirt did when I started buying from them.
