Laws concerning carrying rifle in vehicle

I'm just curious about state laws concerning carrying a rifle in your vehicle during a trip. Now I'm not talking about an "assault" weapon and I'd be carrying it in the trunk unloaded, out of reach etc. I live in Indiana(hence my user name) and if I travel to Florida or Texas, for example, will I be breaking the law in the states I pass through? I know this may be a tough one but any imput would be helpful. Thanks Kevin

I can tell you that the carry of long guns in Texas is not restricted. Loaded or empty, open or concealed, permit or not, doesn't matter. There is statewide pre-emption so the laws are uniform across the state. Legally you can walk down Commerce St in downtown Dallas with a loaded AR slung on your shoulder (not saying that it won't raise some eyebrows and you may be questioned about it). This is how the Black Panthers were able to drive up at a Republican convention in Houston in a stretched Hummer while openly armed with rifles and shotguns.
