Law requiring a Divorce Tax

SCR1

It has been determined that the decline of our society has been due to the break down of the family unit. The diminshed role of fathers in society has contributed greatly to the rise in crime by children and has put an undue burden on society and created a public health issue. Recent studies have shown that the lack of a father role in children's lives is in direct proportion to the amount of violent crime in a given area. Therefore I propose a Divorce tax. If someone wants to get a divorce they are required to pay a Tax of $5,000 each by couples WITHOUT kids. If the couple has Kids then they are required to pay the $5,000 each plus and additional $50,000 for each additional child to cover the cost that child may cause the state to incur due to a lack of discipline and the subsequent rise in crime and to help pay for incarceration of the violent offender. Further more Divorcees are to be registered and maintained in a database for easy collection of the taxes due.

This will also require that a permit be acquired before having intercourse because such action may cause a baby to start developing. This will also address unwed parents having children. Hospitals will be required to report all deliveries to the government so that they can be cross-checked with a database to insure that a permit has been properly obtained. If a permit has not been obtained and the couple is not married then the tax will be inforced at the Divorced with Children rate for the unmarried couple.

This would not apply to battered spouses.

Thank You and goodnight.

Enforcement would be a bitch_. Just look at the measures needed to make Chinese 1-child policy work.

Moreover, your measure would increase the govt. involvement rather than decrease it. Another way to get similar results would be to let anyone breed any which way they want but not to enable them losers to leech off their unwilling neighbors. That avoids the use of taxation for social engineering (which is what NFA 1934 was, btw) but also avoids burdening you with support of someone else's brats.

I respectfully disagree!

I thought our objective was LESS governmental interference with our lives both through policy/law/regulation and through taxation. If that's the goal, a "divorce tax" is a step backwards.

In addition, while there certainly are irresponsible individuals whose divorces cause additional public burdens, there are also: (a) responsible divorcees who do not impose any further burden on society and (b) irresponsible individuals who produce greater public burdens while remaining married. Therefore, THE ESSENTIAL ISSUE ISN'T MARITAL STATUS BUT ASSUMING FULL RESPONSIBILITY FOR YOUR ACTIONS AND NOT BECOMING A BURDEN TO OTHERS IN THE SOCIETY.

In sum:
> Less government intrusion in our lives
> Fewer government programs requiring less public funding and taxation
> Penalize irresponsibility by requiring the negligent individual to pay back the costs of his neglect (regardless of the category of his negligence)

Oh great,

I thought a parent license would be a good idea, for about 1/10000000 of a second. Then I realized that Billary would control who gets them....

Not good.

(side note: would it have the desired effect if it was a shall issue license?
if it had a mandatory 9 month issue
clause????)

Also issues with taxing divorcees, know a few of both genders, who pays? How do you decide? there are divorces where the two cannot agree whether day is light or night is dark, how are you going to get them to split the fine?

A bad idea.

(ASIDE: my wife told me the equivalent of our pre nups was....
there will be NO divorce, one gets 3 hots and a cot, the other won't be breathing.)
I don't plan on exercising EITHER of those two options, so yes sir I am HAPPILY married.

Later,
Gfrey

Yep, how many of think right wing paranoid subversives like you would ever get breeding licenses? And how many people would Bill Clinton screw over license or no license...

As the child of divorced but wonderful and happy parents, I protest. Divorces should be easier to get than marriages, or at least as easy. There should be divorce chapels in Las Vegas.

"Battering" is not the only sign that a marriage isn't working and is ruining the lives of all involved. Can I get a witness?

Mort, I'll back you up.

But it is interesting that anyone, no matter how ill-prepared they are to be a parent, can breed but you have to have a license to own a dog.

We need reasonable and common sense parent control. Ya know background checks for mental illness, substance abuse, a record of violence or a felony conviction before couples are issued a "Permit to Breed". :D

Mort, I'll be your witness!
You want a divorce tax?
How 'bout for the last six years I've been trying to pay off my (ex)husband's debt.

Now, for the first time, I can pay my bills BEFORE I get a disconnect notice! :)

I left so I can teach my son how to be a responsible/respectable adult. How 'bout I get $5000 as a *reward*? (of course, I would turn right around and donate it to my favorite RKBA cause! :))

I can see the point, SCR1, but.... ;)

SCR1,
I don't kmow what your life experience has been, but if you have spent years in an unhappy marriage that finally was ended, you will have a different view of life.
