Dear Violence Policy Center Action Network Member:
The news this week was particularly tragic: Ten Amish school girls shot execution-style in their one-room schoolroom. This horrific shooting comes on the heels of a Colorado man taking six high school girls hostage, shooting and killing one after sexually molesting several of the girls.
These tragic events highlight the importance of the work of the Violence Policy Center. The VPC's recently released study on murder-suicide, "American Roulette," has already become an important resource for the news media. See coverage of the study in Pennsylvania: http://www.blogs.pennlive.com/default.asp?item=206293
VPC research is also shaping editorial comment on how a gun-saturated America contributes to tragedies like the Amish schoolhouse shooting. See a recent column in the Baltimore Sun:
http://www.baltimoresun.com/news/lo...t05,0,5894911.column?coll=bal-news-columnists
The VPC is also getting out our research that convincingly refutes the gun lobby's argument that arming teachers is the answer to school shootings: http://www.vpc.org/fact_sht/Armingteachers.fs.pdf
This week's tragic events reinforce the importance of the VPC's solid research and policy proposals. To keep updated on our activities, please visit www.vpc.org.
Thank you, as always, for your efforts to stop gun death and injury.
