Last of the Ruskie AK's

That article isn't very clear. What exact Kalashnikov is the Russian military supposed to stop buying? I believe that the AK-74 is still the main rifle in use with the Russian military, with the latest standard issue version being the AK-74M. I guess they are saying that the Russian's are putting a stop to buying the 74 series.

As far as I know there have been ongoing trials for some time to find a replacement for the 74 series. There were various models, such as the AEK-971, the AN-94, The AK-107/108, and recently the AK-200. I've heard that the AN-94 was supposed to be the successor, but last year Putin was parading around the AK-200, which looked a lot like a normal 74 or 107 with a bunch of picatinny rails stuck all over it.

Anyway, this doesn't seem like it's going to affect us much at all. The article states at the very end "The plant would seek to increase exports and step up hunting rifle production in the meantime, the representative added." Seems that Arsenal and anyone who wants to convert their own should be just fine as the Izhmash factories are going to ramp up export production.

Maybe prices will drop then.

And yeah, the AN-94 I thought was pretty much a no go but I saw that pic of Putin and the AK-200. Hell yeah.
