I hunt at a club. Most stations are <100 yds.

I have a 556 left over and don't want to put $$$ scope on it. Thought about a Green Laser. I've had one on my bow and really like it, but at 5Mw it will only show up out to 35-50 yds in daytime.

I know 5 Mw is legal max. Overseas they can sell over 5Mw. Thought about ordering one of those.?

So, what are some good alternatives?

Open sites are "normal", but 70 yr old eyes don't love them.

Red dot (green) is a fair option, but a quality one cost as much as a scope and 100yd is a little far for accurate shot.

In scopes, we only use 50mm and up as hogs and deer move near dark. 40mm is too dark.
 
I'd rethink the red dot sight. I have a 2MOA red dot on my AR 15 that, for the $150 I paid for it, has been great. Even my 12-year-old son is "minute of meat" with this setup out to 100 yards.
 
For say 2-300, you have lots of options.
I’d go to a local gun store that carries a bunch and just try the lasers out.
(By the way, it’s 5 mW (milliwatt), not 5 MW(Megawatt-millions of watts).
With a 5MW laser, you don’t need a rifle to put it on, you just point and fry)
 
Local stores and most online only have CLASS I, or 5 Mw. 5Mw is good in the evening and night, but only out to maybe 30 yrd in daylight.
 
Do the animals react to the laser? If it spooks them, especially the green, it might not work so well. Green is highly visible to the eye and the beam itself will often be visible. Red lasers, even if they are much more powerful, are not nearly as visible. The beam is typically not visible unless there is a lot of dust. I have a 200 mW red laser, a 50 mW green laser, and a 1 W blue laser. Don't judge, I like my toys LOL.

By the way, I think mW is milliwatt and MW is megawatt. If you have a 5 Mega Watt Laser, you are better off using that to hunt the piggies. You won't need to even cook them since a 5 megawatt laser should fry that bacon up nice and crisp. I'm pretty sure you're going to have to spend quite a bit more than a few hundred bucks for megawatt lasers though. LOL :D
