Laser lyte vs Crimson Trace

Looking to add either a laser lyte rear site or crimson trace to my XD. What have been your experience with either of these two? Would you shy away from one or the other?

Mick

Just not familiar with lasermax. New to the whole laser site thing. I shoot a crimson trace equiped XD last night at a night shoot and loved it. Just trying to get other opinions on what has worked best for you.

I have a Glock 26 with a lasermax guide rod laser. I love mine. It puts the laser as close to the centerline of the barrel as possible so it seems much more accurate to me. I had read many reviews on other sites (pro and con) and having it integrated into the pistol seemed the best for me. Almost a year now and absolutely no issues.

Lasermax v Crimsontrace laser aimers green/red dots...

I checked into the Lasermax green laser dot add on in 2009 for my PX4 9mm.
The high price(approx $400.00 USD) made that way to impractical. :(
I would prefer a steady green dot laser aimer or grip system but that seems a tad off for now. Crimsontrace's own marketing/ads say the green lasers do not run very long(under 90min) and wear out quickly. When you add normal duty or carry elements(bad weather, heat, humid climates, dust, rain, etc) that makes laser aimers less useful.
Im not a huge fan of the blinking Lasermax guide rod unit red laser but sworn LE officers have told me they held up better in T&Es with Glock 21 duty pistols than the CT lasergrips.
I like CT lasergrips but as a left hander I find them less than ideal for POA/POI. The tiny screws can stick out and scratch your palm/fingers if you adjust them to far out. :(
The 1913 rail laser aiming units/white lights may work best for now.

I'm left handed, and at first I thought that the CT lasergrips would not be optimal for me since I am left handed. I have them on all of my handguns, even my S&W Model 19. I have found that they are actually even MORE ideal for left handers than for right handers.

I know Mick already bought a CT, but how did everybody get from Laserlyte to Lasermax? The Laserlyte is a sight that replaces the rear sight. Originally introduced for Glock, now available for SA XD, and S&W MP. I have been wondering how well they work myself. Thinking about putting one on my XD40 Subcompact.

I have Crimson Trace laser grips on three handguns, and would not buy a handgun that CT did not make a set of grips for. I am that sold on them.

If I were into bullseye, as I was decades ago, it would be different. For that, adjustable iron sights are the way to go because the red dot won't make it out to fifty yards in the noonday sun. But at my age, that is history. My use for them is home/self defense, and there Crimson Trace grips, with their excellent, quite instinctive actuators, really shine.

Cordially, Jack

The problem that I see with the Laser Lyte rear sight is that is THE thing that would be smashed against everything that I bump my gun into during my day to day activities. Just maneuvering around in my daily activities as a Pizza Man sees my gun banging and bumping into tables and counters and sinks.... and pretty much the spot that hits the most is right about where that sight would be....

As ClydeFrog mentioned - LE officers swear by Lasermax guiderod lasers.

When convenience, reliability, compatibility with existing equipment is a must - they are hard to beat. They are not cheap, but you get what you pay for.

I have the Lasermax on my XD .45. It has been nothing but trouble for me. I sent it back once with no positive result. Just the tiniest amount of oil on it and it won't work. Even totally dry it is only hit and miss.
I am very disappointed in it...

LRS on my Glock 35 - 40

Wow, I'm new here, and I'm really surprised to hear all the horror stories about the Laserlyte. I've had mine for a while, used the pistol regularly and loved the doggone thing. It's now second nature for me to turn the laser on as I draw the weapon.

Plus, with the Laserlyte, the handgrip stays the same on my Glock. I ruled out the Lasermax system since I use the LWD modified guide rod and didn't want to give it up.
