laser boresighter

I don't know if this in the right place or not, but I'm looking for a laser boresighter and wanted opinions on what ones are the best value, experiences you've had with them, etc. Thanks!

I have 3 different laser boresights. Two are through-the-bore where you chamber a laser that looks like a cartridge. They aren't worth a darn because reflections inside the barrel make the laser beam spread so it isn't usable 10 feet from the muzzle even in a darkened room.

The third is a Site Lite 100 that works great. I set up my gun cradle on the dining room table (when the wife isn't home) and aim out the door to a concrete retainng wall on the other side of my property. The laser dot is visible even in the strongest sunlight. I am able to dial a scope in so the group is within 6 inches of the bull @ 100 yds when I go to the range. Like all boresighters, you have to fine tune your scope adjustments by shooting real groups at the range.

cost

Where can i find one and how much is a good one.
I have seen them from 30 up to 100 is the cost a big factor on quality or are they all about the same.

You can also use a gun rest and remove the bolt...aim at a target looking through the bore then adjust the scope to the same point. If you dont have the $$$.

+1 for the Leupold. It doesn't look like there's any way it could work, but it does. A physicist friend of mine checked it out and laughed a little at the fact that I didn't understand it. He assured me the mechanism could function as advertised. I guess there's a prism in there or something. Anyway, it gets me on the paper. It was about 40-45 bucks when I got it.

I've actually seen folks at our local range who'd mounted a scope atop their AR's carry handle and it never occurred to said Einsteins to just conform the scope to the iron sights, then work on more precise scope adjustments.

Right on Abstract !!

Been there, done that with my M4. Much faster than laser bore sighting and taking in consideration that 2.6 inches and all that Method.

Like you said, if your iron sights are zeroed, setup a target or item and with your rifle clamped down, adjust the scope to where the Iron sights are pointed. Only a slight tweak needed after that. Wish I'd read your post a while back, saved some ammo and time for sure......Thanks

I did that for years it works but let me add a couple of idea for guys who don't have a bore sighter.

I made a gun cradle kind of like is sold to clean or work on your gun.

I took a scoped bolt I knew was sighted in and using that gun looked down the barrel and the scope at a wall 15 or so feet away. then placed stick pins where both seemed to be centered, barrel and crosshair. Then would place the rifle I wanted to bore sight, place the barrel on the lower pin and the scope's crosshair on the upper. It worked better than you would think.

For a gun that the barrel could not be looked down I broke a old mirror, took a piece that would slip into the opened action and look down the barrel that way.

A while back, I got one of the SiteLite laser boresighter as a gift, which was around $100. I couldn't stand the thing. I took me longer to set the thing up than it did bore sighting the rifle. I bore sighted 2 rifles with it and they were within 6 inches on paper. I took it back to Cabelas and exchanged it for the Cabelas brand mechanical boresighter, which I believe ran around $29. It's much easier and quicker to boresight rifles and was just as accurate as the laser boresighter.

skeeter

Went to Wallmart, the clerk did not have a clue as to what I was talking about and tried to find it online. One of the supervisers asked if I can get a stock number or description of the boresighter that would help. Do you have anything? Thanx.
