Large Bore Semiautomatics

Some time back, I had posted a question about large bore semiautomatic pistols. I still haven't purchased one yet, but I'm looking for recommendations.

As I am accustomed to .44 (Special and Magnum) in a revolver, I'd prefer to have something similar in a pistol. Forget the Desert Eagles; they are cost-prohibitive at this time. I've considered either a .45 ACP or a 10 mm. Does anyone know anything about Dan Coonan's .41 Magnum? As far as weight and size are concerned, I like a gun with plenty of heft: big, palm-filling grips, 3-4 pounds in weight, around 5" barrel, etc. Any help you can give concerning recommended manufacturers, calibers, etc., is appreciated.

I'd go Glock 20 with a couple of 15 rnd mags. I really like the flexibility this platform allows. No experience with the Dan Coonan.

I doubt very much you can find a .41 mag Coonan. Better luck finding bigfoot 1st.

p.s. If you find one, ask for 2, for me!

I will vouch for the 10mm glocks, the 20 and the 29. I like the 15 round standard mags as well.

I have a 36 glock, 45 auto with 6 in the magazine. It is a nice small gun, but I would go with the 30 if I had the choice again.

The 20 has around a 5 inch barrel, I forget the specs. It is likely too light for your target weight though. But you can get 6 inch target barrels, and these help up the velocity of the bullet nicely. Add a recoil spring a little heavier than stock and you are set for hot handloads and anything you can buy over the counter.

I have decided this is about all I could need in a semi-auto, and am now looking towards the 44 magnum revolvers. Seems like we are passing each other. :)

And the 45 auto glocks can put out some nice numbers, but a lot of times you change barrels and go to 400 corbon or something a bit rare and expensive.

I don't think Coonan ever got around to .41.

Desert Eagles in .41 are $649 from CDNN Investments. That's not much more than a Glock 20 for something more accurate than most every revolver.

I don't think you will find many semi-automatics in the 3-4 pound range, outside of the Desert Eagles. On the other hand, recoil from the rounds used in semi-autos is less than a heavy .44 magnum load.
A 1911 or CZ-97 is 40 oz. - 2-1/2 pounds. A SIG 220 or Glock 21 is a lot less.

I have no problem with a 28 ounce Kimber Pro.

You can have a .45 ACP modified for .45 Super or .45 Magnum.

How about a LAR grizzly in .45 winchester magnum???
same balistics as a .44 magnum and 2/3 the recoil.
