~120lb sow feral pig, DRT - high heart/lung area possibly CNS spine disruption...taken from a distance of 10 yards at the most. Remington Core-lokt 150g
Is there any advantage to using the Hornady Leverevolution? What I'm wondering is what's the possibility of taking down an Elk? It's related to a work tale.

Hoping I can still post if it was my Mom's moose? Winchester '94, closer than 100 yards, unsure as to ammo mfg but it was either Federal or Remington. I would love to know if it was 150's or 170's. Old-school Alaska, definitely.
Not a terribly large animal, but I put a couple of 170 gr Partitions clear through him...... lengthwise. Not the optimum bullet for whitetail, obviously ...... but I have no doubt it would go through an elk or moose standing broadside to you, at under 100 yards.
About 16 years ago I whacked a FAT whitetail forkhorn at about 235 yards (paced over rough ground/measured via google earth) with basic 150 grain Winchester ammo, and knocked a thumb-sized chunk of bone out the off-side shoulder. He tipped over on the first stride.
I didn't weigh him but I was about 210 at the time and had to pick my feet up to hoist him with a 1:1 pulley, so I'm guessing about 180? We have good bucks that scale close to 250 in that area.
I have not taken anything with a 30-30, but I was with my friend who lives in TX, and I watched him take a 200+ lbs ferral hog about 60 feet or so with a .30-30 TC Contender Super 14. Neck shot broke the neck just inches behind the head the pig was DRT. Not sure of the load. The visit with him was great.
Ground Squirrel at about 10 yards using Sierra 150 grain flat points and Trailboss. So far thats the only living thing I have shot with it, but, it only gets about 10 rounds a year thru it as a back-up to the back-ups for antelope and elk.
