Can't date it.
Since they came out in 1992, not likely to be either pinned or recessed.

Retail Blue Book for 98 percenter is $295. Your mileage may vary with locale and demand.

The Blue book is pretty much garbage when it comes to Smith and Wessons. It is written by Winchester and Colts guys.

The Book is used by buyers to try and get an item for less than it is worth. The old " buy low, sell high" mentality. It is of more use as a list of gun models, not a real world price guide.

Smith and Wesson gun values are closely tied to demand. One day you see a dozen Model XX's for $250. In a month they are all $400.

A 98% 65LS for $295 around these parts would be a steal.

My advice, is, if you like it, and it is in good condition, buy it. Then enjoy it and don't worry about how much you paid.

Prices vary so much by area that it's almost impossible to make a good guess. Here in SC, that would be better than average, but not a steal. I would expect to pay $350 or so, perhaps $325.

RogerC, I don't disagree with you on the values in the book, but here on the 'net, it's about all we have.
