L1A1 Problem

Took my Century L1A1 Sporter to the range today to zero it in. Boy do those rear sights stink. Then it quite cycling?

Problem

Rifle will not cycle. Prior to this it took a setting of two to get the rifle to cycle. Using surplus Brit ammo.

At the range I put a piece of paper over the gas port hole and it didn't leave a mark on the paper.

Once home I notice the gas tube was unscrewed and had seperated from the gas assembly. Screwed it back in and test fired same probem.

My thoughts were the gas port hole must be plugged in the barrel? Then broke it down but when I blew air into the barrel air came out of the hole into the gas assembly? This didn't make any sense as when I fired the it no gases hit the paper.

Any thoughts on the problem?

Thanks,

Check that the gas cylinder plug is properly installed and seated. Then check the channel in the gas cylinder plug. It conveys the gas from the port to the gas cylinder and can get dirty. If nothing else solves the problem, the piston may need to be replaced.

If the gas tube can unscrew, it is because the pin the secures it is gone, which causes a large gas leak in and of itself.

There are two flats on the gas tube where it screws into the gas block. The bottom one will line up with a hole where a roll pin can be inserted. Screw the tube in as far as it will go and then some. Use a punch through the holes in the gas tube to get extra leverage. Line up on of the flats and insert the pin.

Think Southern nailed it. Lost pin will keep it from cycling properly even if the tube stays screwed in.

Southern,

Your trouble shooting was right on the nose. There is no pin in place.

Where's the best place to get this pin? I looked on Tapco Website and couldn't find it.

Thanks again.
