I'm torn between these .308's.I like the look of the g3/cetme but am told the fal is easier to maintain on ones own.I'm not very educated on these weapons but I don't plan on reloading and I'm more concerned with reliability, recoil , cheap mags and parts and availabilty of parts.Any info will be appreciated whether pros or cons.

I have never shot a FAL so I'm no expert. I own a Century Arms Cetme and really like the gun. I only have about 300 rounds and its performace is flawless but others haven't been so lucky and have reported that it needed a break-in period. With open sight I am able to keep all of my shots in an area the size of a softball at 100 yards but the group size would probably drop if I were using a shooting rest.

The Cetme comes with a muzzle brake that does a good job of taming recoil. If the sound of the muzzle brake doesn't get the attention of those shooting next to you the sight of your brass being thrown 30 feet behind and to the right of you will. Only thing I don't like about the delayed roller action of the Cetme is how dirty the weapon gets on the inside, it doesn't affect operation but it is a pain if you clean your weapon to a spotless condition after a shooting session.

The Cetme cost varies but some online vendors such as Wholesale Guns and Ammo or Southern Ohio Guns (SOG) have been selling the Cetme for less than $400.00. Magazine prices have recently dropped and new condition Cetme mags can be purchased from Century for $7.00 or original HK/G3 mags can be purchased from AIM surplus for $9.00.

Bottom line is that the Cetme is fun to shoot, but because I have never had a FAL I can't say which is better.
