Kudos to the Million Mom March

I wanted to post this letter to the editor here for any tweaking that it might need. Your suggestions would be most appreciated!

quote:
I just wanted to tell the participants of the Million Mom March, kudos to you for your good intentions! Let’s review just what you will accomplish through this demonstration:

Thousands, if not millions of us who understand the true nature of the 2nd Amendment will not comply with such regulations. Therefore we will become criminals rather than give up our rights to “reasonable restrictions” or “gun control laws”. We will then become unproductive and a drain on society as we are languishing in jail for our victimless crime, and you, the obedient servant of the government, will be footing the bill for our stay through the taxes that you pay.

You want licensing and background checks for gun owners (what criminals will comply with this?), national registration of handguns (we already have this through the 4473 form that we are required to fill out for ALL gun purchases, although the FBI and BATF will never openly admit it), minimum safety standards for guns (the gun industry is already the most regulated and closely watched industry in America today), and safety locks (manufacturers have already VOLUNTARILY included safety locks with all the guns they make) and childproofing technology for guns (the best “childproofing” technology comes in the form of Education).

Guns are not the bane of this society, the fractured family, lack of integrity, and misaligned priorities are. So instead of demanding more laws, why don’t you go home and strengthen your family by taking the time to teach personal responsibility, integrity, and high moral values.

G. R. Hall is obviously not a shooter and subscribes to the “Rosie O’Donnel Constitutional History Course.” It’s a real shame to hear this individual spew forth such uneducated drivel.

The 2nd Amendment in its most profound meaning was included in the Bill of Rights to enumerate the power The People already had (a God given right) to pull in the reigns of a government run amok. For when the government becomes more powerful than the people that it is supposed to SERVE, we no longer have the representative republic that our founding fathers designed for us. We have a despotic tyranny.

What president Clinton could not accomplish through the Constitutionally outlined method of law creation; he is trying to do through litigation. This not only reveals his personal agenda (The People be damned) but it adds to the overwhelming evidence of his blatant disregard for his oath of office. You see, gun control is not about guns; it’s about control.

If G.R. Hall has any desire to become educated about the 2nd Amendment, or find out why the situations outlined in the letter he/she wrote are ridiculous, my number is in the phone book. Leave a message.

One thing that he/she wrote that is so true today is, “It’s hard to find men today with the same kind of integrity as those days.”

Very true, and I also would send this letter to every newspaper as possible.

Not a flame
repeat not a flame

I edited your letter. It was damn good BTW, all I did was change it from offensive to defensive. I swear on my life Im not trying to be a ass, just editing a damn good letter the lambs cant handle. I reworded it defensive rather than offensive. If you can wait a day I have already sent it to my editor "so to speak" to check for grammar errors.
m gonna send both versions to Jll for examination. If you can wait till you hear back from me.
My revision

You want licensing and background checks for gun owners (what criminals will comply with this?)
National registration of handguns, minimum safety standards for guns (the gun industry is already the most regulated
industry in America today), and safety locks ( most manufacturers have already VOLUNTARILY included safety locks with
all the guns they make) and childproofing technology for guns (the BEST “childproofing” technology
comes in the form of Education).

Guns are not the bane of this society, the fractured family, lack of integrity, and misaligned priorities
are. Instead of demanding more laws, I beg of you to go home and strengthen your family by taking
the time to teach personal responsibility, integrity, and high moral values.

G. R. Hall is obviously not a shooter and misunderstands all that shooters cherish. He/She has never heard our
side of the story, only the (“Rosie O’Donnel Constitutional History Course")

The 2nd Amendment in its most profound meaning was included in the Bill of Rights to enumerate the
power, the people already had (a God given right) to pull in the reigns of a government run amok. For
when the government becomes more powerful than the people that it is supposed to serve, we no
longer have the representative republic that our founding fathers designed for us. We have a
tyranny.

What President Clinton could not accomplish through the Constitutionally outlined method of law
creation; he is trying to do through litigation. This not only reveals his personal agenda but it adds to the overwhelming evidence of his blatant disregard for his oath of office. You
see, gun control is not about guns; it’s about control.

If G.R. Hall has any desire to become educated about the 2nd Amendment, or find out why the
situations outlined in the letter he/she wrote are ridiculous, my number is in the phone book. Leave a

101 Proof,

No offense taken. And I'm sure there is some merit it keeping such a letter as non-confrontational as possible.

I can't help but marvel at the hypocracy... We try to soften things in order to get our point across, and they (the gun nuts) seem to get more agressive in order to drive their point home.

Maybe we should use their own tactics against them? Let's call a pile of manure a "pile of manure"... :D

I'm looking forward to your editor's response!

I hear ya man it pisses me off too. I would love to just call manure, manure. My reasoning for making the changes I did are this. We would all love for a million mom member to read it and decide not to go, unfortunately its not gonna happen. The good thing by keeping it straghtforward and factual is intended for the non rkba gunowner (the hunter that thinks registration is a good idea etc.) Were not gonna change a anti's mindset no more than they are gonna change ours. I pulled it off once, but she was a close friend and it took years. We have to work on the fence sitters.

this article by John Ross has some great points on winning RKBA arguments: http://www.shotgunnews.com/members/fred/pages/Freds8.html

quote:
The biggest mistake we make is failing to take the moral high
ground on our issue, and letting our enemies define the terms.

THEY SAY: "We'd be better off if no one had guns."

WE SAY: "You can never succeed at that, criminals will always get guns."
(FLAW: The implication here is that if you COULD succeed, it would be a
reasonable plan.)

WE SHOULD SAY: "So, you want to institute a system where the
weak and elderly are at the mercy of the strong, the lone are at
the mercy of the gang. You want to give violent criminals a
government guarantee that citizens are disarmed. Sorry, that's
unacceptable. Better that we should require every citizen to carry
a gun."[/quote]

Hey man sorry took so long to get back been gone a few days. Jill just checks for spelling and grammer that sort of thing. (English teacher) Final product below

You want licensing and background checks for gun owners? The gun industry is already the most
regulated industry in America today. Most manufacturers already VOLUNTARILY include safety
locks with all the guns they make. The BEST "childproofing" technology comes in the form of education.
And I dare say that most criminals will never be subjected to a background check to gain possession of a gun.

Guns are not the bane of this society; the fractured family, lack of integrity, and misaligned priorities
are. Instead of demanding more laws, I beg of you to go home and strengthen your family by taking
the time to teach personal responsibility, integrity, and high moral values.

I don't know, I like the original better. Sometimes being more straight forward will get the point across. It gets peoples attention.

Well, they finally published it today. Here are the results of the editor's knife...

And the media wonders why some people refuse to be interviewed?

Sorry John, but they took a well written letter with many good points and made you out to be a dangerous "gun nut".
