I wanted to post this letter to the editor here for any tweaking that it might need. Your suggestions would be most appreciated!

quote:
I just wanted to tell the participants of the Million Mom March, kudos to you for your good intentions! Let’s review just what you will accomplish through this demonstration:
Thousands, if not millions of us who understand the true nature of the 2nd Amendment will not comply with such regulations. Therefore we will become criminals rather than give up our rights to “reasonable restrictions” or “gun control laws”. We will then become unproductive and a drain on society as we are languishing in jail for our victimless crime, and you, the obedient servant of the government, will be footing the bill for our stay through the taxes that you pay.
You want licensing and background checks for gun owners (what criminals will comply with this?), national registration of handguns (we already have this through the 4473 form that we are required to fill out for ALL gun purchases, although the FBI and BATF will never openly admit it), minimum safety standards for guns (the gun industry is already the most regulated and closely watched industry in America today), and safety locks (manufacturers have already VOLUNTARILY included safety locks with all the guns they make) and childproofing technology for guns (the best “childproofing” technology comes in the form of Education).
Guns are not the bane of this society, the fractured family, lack of integrity, and misaligned priorities are. So instead of demanding more laws, why don’t you go home and strengthen your family by taking the time to teach personal responsibility, integrity, and high moral values.
G. R. Hall is obviously not a shooter and subscribes to the “Rosie O’Donnel Constitutional History Course.” It’s a real shame to hear this individual spew forth such uneducated drivel.
The 2nd Amendment in its most profound meaning was included in the Bill of Rights to enumerate the power The People already had (a God given right) to pull in the reigns of a government run amok. For when the government becomes more powerful than the people that it is supposed to SERVE, we no longer have the representative republic that our founding fathers designed for us. We have a despotic tyranny.
What president Clinton could not accomplish through the Constitutionally outlined method of law creation; he is trying to do through litigation. This not only reveals his personal agenda (The People be damned) but it adds to the overwhelming evidence of his blatant disregard for his oath of office. You see, gun control is not about guns; it’s about control.
If G.R. Hall has any desire to become educated about the 2nd Amendment, or find out why the situations outlined in the letter he/she wrote are ridiculous, my number is in the phone book. Leave a message.
One thing that he/she wrote that is so true today is, “It’s hard to find men today with the same kind of integrity as those days.”
