KSL-TV , Salt Lake City is reporting that Park Rangers in Great Basin National Park have found an old Model 1873 Winchester leaning against a juniper tree in a remote section of the park. They report that the rifle appears to have been there for quite some time!

How cool is this? I would have loved to been the one to find it!

Was it left by an Indian brave? Did a cowboy get way-laid by bandits? How did this rifle happen to be left in that spot?

The rifle looks to be in fairly decent shape, having spent the better part of 100 years out in the elements! I suppose the desert environment helped!

What do you think?

I doubt if it was out in the elements for 100 years. Just cause it was made in 1882 doesn't mean it was left there the year it was bought. Odds are one of our boys coming home from WWII bought it used, took it hunting and leaned it against the tree to relieve himself and then couldn't find it when he got done. Back then they were cheap and plentiful and easily replaced. Still, if that rifle could talk.......
