Kroil Oil?

I have seen this product mentioned in many threads dealing with cleaners and lubricants but no one has discussed its properties and uses specifically. Many have said that they mix it with solvents and others use it to oil the barrel after cleaning. Can anyone give me more information? Thanks!

Kroil is an excellant penetrating oil. It also works great to help work fouling loose prior to cleaning your barrel. It works fantastic when used prior to cleaning your barrel with JB Bore Cleaner. It is a very useful product and should be tried.

Thanks,i see kroil mentioned here frequently and i was wondering if its the same stuff i squirt on rusted nuts and bolts.Yes,very good stuff.

A wet patch or two of Kroil oil down the barrel is the last step of my rifle cleaning.

The stuff is stinky but it seems to do what I wan't of it.

If you have any difficulty locating Kroil, you can substitute Marvel Mystery Oil, right from your automotive store.
Esessentially it's the same stuff, a great penetrant to lift crud from the bore. MMO seems to allow patches to move alittle more freely in the bore without that binding sensation felt when using Kroil.
Both are good cleaners.

This information, If I can get it to you, may help.

I have a 4 page post that I doownloaded on 4-5-99 by Ed Harris on a home-made bore cleaner he calls "Ed's Red". It is in a PDF file. If you can not read a PDF file Adobe with give you a reader free at www.adobe.com.

E-Mail Me so I can attach it and get it off to you.

A word of caution...........

IF you have a rifle with bedding, take EXTRA pains in NOT getting this penetrant into it.
It will seek the smallest path, and if it gets on / in your bedding, it will make short work of it.

I have noticed that alot of people go to alot of trouble to find their 'magic' cleaner or lube. I hear everything from trans fluid, break cleaner to pam cooking spray. I cant help but wonder what these item offer that a quality Gun cleaning solvent or Gun oil does not.

Once when I was in a pinch, I used some WD-40 on a rifle because I had nothing else. I soon discovered that it does not mix well with Gun solvents. It became ill and nearly passed out. Since that time I stick with the cleaners and lubes that I know will work and leave all the experiments to someone else.

This is not a flame against Kroil oil, it just got me wondering.

I've been shooting alot of skeet and KanoLabs "Kroil" works well at cutting the carbon fouling in the semi auto gas system.
I agree, never mix compounds.
(BTW-There are several other products from Kano that I can endorse also. I've used them for years when restoring and working on antique cars.)

Thanks, gentlemen for your advice and information. Fireforged, I also am leery of mixing cleaners/oils and usually stick to good old Hoppe's #9 and Remington Oil. However, lately I've taken to using Sweet's for copper and Butch's Bore Shine for follow-up general cleaning. I think that the search for the "magic" cleaner is endless but also fun and enlightening. :)

Brownell's now sells Kroil and JB Bore Cleaner togather as a package. That should tell you that the Kroil works and does not interact with other solvents.

A 50:50 mix of Kroil and Shooters Choice is a common BR slovent mix that works pretty good on cleaning rifle bores. I have been using it for about 5 years now and have been happy with the results.
