Know what to do in Police Encounters..

Hello all, I just wanted to share this very helpful video that I ordered a few weeks ago. I ordered it on DVD, but now they offer a web download for 5$ It's a video that uses actors to act out scenarios such as getting pulled over for speeding, etc...what to say to the police, what not to say, what your rights are and how to protect them.

I would say its worth way more than $5 to be confident in knowing what to do if you should ever in a possibly life changing police interrogation or unlawful search. Here is the link. http://www.flexyourrights.org/busted/bittorrent-download.html

First, allow me to bring up a minor point, IF you don't break the law, you won't have any encounters with the police. Second, is there a firearm related issue in here somewhere?

Its really veeeeery simple

Do the exact samething the cops do when they shoot someone and remain silent. Give no statement's. Give them your IDs and tell them you want to call your attorney or an attorney. And that's it.

IF you don't break the law, you won't have any encounters with the police.

I guess you don't believe in murphy's law then? What if your involved in a serious traffic accident that's not your fault? What if your robbed? What if your life or the life of a loved one is threatned with violence? What if your car is stolen? What if your home is broken into? Then what?

whatever you do, don't do this:
holy crap. is that for real?? what cop would beat you with a baton for giving them the finger?

Anyway, if you carry a firearm and think nothing will ever happen to you, either you are a psychic, or you are a bettin man.The guy who posted on here a few weeks ago who had his firearms seized from his car in the parking lot at his work could have used the info in this video.

I am actually kinda embarrassed, because I myself didnt know the basic information contained in the bill of rights. Now I kinda of feel this weird obligation to make others know what their rights are. I feel like a Jehovah's Witness. :p

IF you don't break the law, you won't have any encounters with the police.

So if you do have an encounter with the police you have broken the law.

It's remarkable how some people just can't understand that simple concept. A proper understanding of it could relieve the taxpayer's financial burden by allowing us to abolish the criminal court system entirely.

I find that I must disagree with you, amigo. Tis raining here in the land of fruits and nuts (California). I went to the local grocery store and when I came out there were two patrol units looking over my truck. When I approached they were polite up to a point. Apparently an injury hit/run with a similar truck occurred a mile or so away. I pointed out that there was no damage on my truck so obviously I wasn't involved.
(At this point we had a damp discussion as to my providing ID since they had no reason to detain me. If it was for record keeping, they could get it by running the registration. )

When dealing with police officers, it is best to remain calm at all times, move slowly, speak clearly and take advantage of your rights. Especially the right to keep your gab shut to prevent inserting your foot!

Sir William,

First, allow me to bring up a minor point, IF you don't break the law, you won't have any encounters with the police.
Sorry, but that's not necessarily so.

In my current life? Sure. I live in the sleepy outer 'burbs of Knoxville, drive a nice, respectable BMW, and get off work no later than 9:30 PM and am home with a beer and a book by 10:00.

In my previous life? Well, I lived in Virginia Highlands, a gentrified inner-city Atlanta neighborhood whose art galleries, watering holes, coffee houses, and Victorian residences were bordered on the west by the nightclubs of Midtown, on the north by the bars and strip clubs of Buckhead, and on the south by the 'Hood. My daily transportation was a pink and blue crotch rocket. I got off work somewhere between 1:00 AM and 3:00 AM. I had plenty of unscheduled meetings with Johnny Law, 99% of the time at road blocks.

Second, is there a firearm related issue in here somewhere?

Parenthetically, since the topic of firearms will no doubt come up in any meeting between Joe Licensedtoter and Johnny Law, but that makes no nevermind, as the L&P forum is dedicated to "the Bill of Rights, to concealed carry, to general political issues." :)

Tamara, I hear you. The fact is I have been investigated and even transported in cuffs to the station. I have had a search warrant executed on my abode before. I have cooperated and even laughed during the interview process. I have taken a polygraph in the course of a criminal investigation. I sound BAD, huh? It just happens. The thing to remember is this, You have the right to remain silent, anything you say can and will be used against you in court. You have the righ to an attorney before making any statement and may have your attorney with you durig questioning. If you cannot afford an attorney and desire one, the court will appoint one for you. You may stop the questioning at any time by refusing to answer further or by requesting to consult with your attorney. The police must obtain a waiver from you. In order to secure a waiver the following questions should be asked and an affirmative answer secured to each. Do you understand each of these rights I explained to you? With these rights in mind, do you wish to talk to us now? The easy route is to cooperate. You can invoke your 5th Amendment right not to incriminate yourself and refuse to answer or cooperate. You can say you wish NOT to make a statement and you wish to consult an attorney. If a weapon, assault, rape, homicide, hit and run or most any violent felony is involved, it would be best to consult an attorney. A good one will aid you in putting events together that are to your advantage. I do think more people should be aware. $5 video viewing is NOT the way to awareness. Would you trust your life and livelihood to hearsay internet advice? LOL I use the public library myself. 24 years of experience helps.

As many bad jokes as are made about attorneys it is also a good idea to have a profesional relationship with a general practice attorney. A good attorney will know who is who in that area and when the waste matter hits the fan your attorney is suddenly going to be your best friend and the person that knows everybody that can help.

I found an attorney that is active on gun issues in my state and also a pro CHL guy. I called him and chatted with him and now carry his phone number in my wallet. If something bad happens, I will first call 911, then call him. If in the process of doing there job the police make a mistake and think that I am a bad guy for some reason, my mouth will be shut untill I talk to him....

Well, in going with your post prior to this, the answer is:

So if you're robbed, just suck it up. There is no way the Police can do anything about it when all you're going to do is tell them your name and ask for an Attorney. Heck, they won't even know you've been robbed, or had your car stolen, or house broken into.

What if you're suspected of some crime? The police are human, you know, and they sometimes DO get the wrong guy. As per 'hearsay' evidence, just because it's on the Internet, doesn't mean it's not true. Certainly this movie does not claim to provide more than the very basic guide, and you have not seen it and neither have I.

I wonder if the baton wielding LEO got into any trouble with that stunt? With the video, those two guys have him cold using excessive force over essentially nothing.

I am sure the LEO was angry and surprised, but I think he went way overboard.

I think that video was staged. I think all those involved were acting.

My first post was my opinion using the advice my attorney gave me four years ago on what I should do if I am involved in a self-defense shooting. And I think its sound advice. That's why I wanted to share it. In my second post in this thread I was asking numerous "what if" questions to an answer I did not agree with. That's why, I seperated the two responses.

A friend of mine had a man come up behind him with a GLOCK, rack it,
tried to shoot him and when police showed up they did not find the
spent case, denied it had been there when my friend found it, and did a breathylizer on him.

Should I assume they do a better job when they have a body on
the ground and a live suspect?
