In Guns & Ammo annual Buyers Guide (pages 11-12) they mentioned a Republic Arms Patriot 45. Anyone know anything about this gun, own one, or shoot one? I did a search on this site and didn't come up with much.

Looked at one last week at my local gun emporium. It is a new sell for that shop. It is a polymer framed pistol made in Chino California. It kind of resembles the Taurus Millenium but in .45 cal.The gun in this shop is selling for $249. I looked at it before I made my decision to buy my Glock. I had also looked at the Millenium. Would have taken the
Taurus over the Patriot, the Taurus seemed alot better in quality and comes with a lifetime warranty. I can't speak for the Patriot warranty. I took the Glock, just wanted to make sure though and that is why I was looking at those two. :)
Hope this helped :)

The Patriot has gotten some good reviews, some of which can be seen on their web site. The new "Complete Book of Autopistols" has an article. They rate it well as a CCW gun though the trigger pull is a bit heavy. It apparently ran through a variety of factory loads without a malf. The article also says the factory blew 10,000 rounds through a prototype as a durability test.

I believe certain brands of 1911 magazines will work in it, though they stick out the bottom. Even so it gives you a low cost option for carrying spare ammo, like some Mini-Glock owners carry a full-size pre-ban mag as a spare.

It's no super-tuned racegun, but for a guy on a budget who wants a .45ACP carry gun, looks like an OK deal. The mugger on the receiving end of a 230-gr Hydra-Shok won't know or care what the bulet launcher cost.
