Knockout brand slugs

I picked up some 12 guage "Knockout" brand sabat slugs for my shotgun at the gun show a couple of weeks ago. I was testing out various other loads and pistols and rifles, when I spotted the old cattle feeder. I don't know what guage the steel is on this thing, but a double "0" buck shot when fired 10 yards away only produces 4 out of the 9 slugs actually penetrating one side of it.

This knockout sabat blew a 1" diameter hole thru the front side, and a 1-1/4" hole out the back! Holy hell! I had no idea how truly powerful a shotgun could be.

Truly a SHTF load!

Just thought I'd share. :D

Whoa, that is some penetration! I shot a Hemlock tree at about 60 yards with a Winchester super X hollow point slug. The slug penetrated a full 2" before completely disenagrating (sp). I find that more than suits my needs. I keep my HD with 1 round of 00 buck in the chamber. Followed by another 00 buck, 2 000 buck then lastly 2 Winchester hollow point slugs. If that don't stop the BG, he can have the tv.

Slugs are awesome.

I was doing some herd control on the Eastern Shore maybe 15 years back. I shot a smallish doe square in the shoulder with a Winchester 1 oz HP rilfled slug.

Distance was maybe 35 yards. A friend who witnessed it thought I was using some super LE round from the blowback from the wound. The doe went down inside 30 yards and the entrance wound was big enough for all four fingers on my big hand. We didn't get much meat from that quarter.

Another smallish deer was shot in the left shoulder obliquely from the front with a Rottwell Brenekke. The slug ended in the left hip and broke the femur after at least 30" of penetration. Deer was DRT.

And so on....

I shot a very old fridge (far thicker steel than modern units) with a 20 gauge cheap slug in hopes of getting to see the deformation... NOSIREE!!! shot clean thru from 30 yards or so. That is 2 outer layers and 2 inner layers of metal including insulation... And to boot... I hit a wire shelf:D
Destructive for sure...

Buckshot's illegal in Minnesota, so all we use for big game is slugs (in southeast anyway, rest is rifle area). They do some crazy damage to deer, that's for sure.

I've always liked Brenneke's, but I was more fond of the Pre-"KO" slugs. I had some short field Magnum's(regualr rifled slugs) that were devastating! I also had very good damage from the Lightfield EXP Hybrid Sabots.
