Knife culture 2: something must be done

Panorama program on the BBC about 'knife culture'; involved interviews with the police, victims, and hospital staff.

Main themes were:

A large figure [pulled out of someones arse] of kids are carrying knives. The majority for protection and self defence, a minority for robbery and / or assault.

A lot of the assaults are for no reason/trivial reasons/robbery.

That something must be done, with the usual ideas (amnesty, throw money at it, can we ban it?) being trotted out.

Ugh, Not again.... :barf:

Iv'e been a Knife Collector since i was a Kid (7 i think) & this kind of crap realy gets on my nerves...

Police try to convince kids not to carry knives but most carry them for protection. But like here they don't do anything to get rid of the troublemakers so the others will continue to carry knives.

I wonder what Kerry thinks about this. England has government controlled health care. They made Nunchucks illeagal in england because they are dangerous not people using them for no good. nunchucks most be much more dangerous than guns, because in the recent bruce lee documentery the cut the dream sequence scene in which he used nunchucks to defend himself from demons. I wonder if right now Kerry is think about ways to get rid of any mention that he eas a hunter, handles guns, or took a chinese ak-47as a war trophy. Maybe for are own protection he will start to fine TV show that show guns, and make movies that show guns rated X or ma-17 or whatever they have cooked up now. Just like they made it mandatory for any film with people taking drugs have a mandatory R rating. Nothing better than government controlled health care government controlled, and entertainment(BBC).

Guess they'll live with the new laws -- we have to.

Here's a brief extract from Western Australia's laws/regulations:

The Weapons Act 1999 was enacted to provide specific legislation to prohibit the bringing, sending into the State, carriage, possession, purchase, sale, supply and manufacture of certain weapons, to control the carriage and possession of other weapons and to limit the carriage and possession of articles which are intended to be used to injure or disable a person.

The Weapons Act 1999 and Weapons Regulations 1999 is an Act to, primarily, control the use and availability of "non-firearm weapons" (including replica firearms) in our community. These non-firearm weapons are segregated into three distinct categories in the Act. They are: "prohibited weapons"; "controlled weapons"; and "articles". The first two categories of these weapons are readily identified and are listed in Schedules 1 and 2 respectively of the Regulations. Articles, on the other hand, is a "catch-all" phrase that covers all other items (weapons) that are not listed, but are either modified or intended to be used as a weapon, mainly to injure and cause fear to a person. These items could be simple household articles, such as boning knives, tomahawks, baseball bats, etc that normally would not be offensive but for time, place and circumstances in which they are found in possession of a person. The burden of proof to show a person has 'lawful excuse' to be in possession of an item rests with the offender and not the police.

Click here for an extract of the prohibited and controlled weapons as listed in Schedule 1 and 2 respectively, Weapons Regulations 1999.

Brief note here: a "controlled weapon" is one which, if you are caught with it, you'd best have a damned good excuse and reason for having it in your possession at the time.

Go here to have a look at the whole sorry mess.

What in the holy living #$%@#% do the people that use the phrase "offensive weapon" think that its definition is? My gawd there's a lot of idgits in UK.

Recruit for the NRA at Renaissance Fairs?

Anytime someone talks about the effectiveness of gun control I just point out that in Australia they are thinking about registering swords.

Anyone, who has any interest in owning any kind of weapon should join the NRA.

It is now perfectly clear that past the endgame for gun control is a whole new field of endeavor for gun control activists.

These people enjoy drawing handsome salaries from the likes of George Soros and they love the thrill they get when they strip "macho" people of their dignity by disarming them.

People who like medieval or ancient weapons are going to find out what is like to be regarded as fruitcake who bears careful watching.

They are going to find out what its like to have their hobby straggled bit by bit and their self-respect ripped away when the police take away their "toys" and they have no choice but to stand silently by.

I got a taste of this when I graduate from Webolos scout to regular Boy Scout. They told me that I couldn't use or carry my pocketknife until I earned the Toten Chit. It was standard procedure there. But, I already had my Whitlin' Chit from the Pack and I knew I was fairly responsible with my knife. I'd scarcely say I was an expert...but you know.

Still, the rules were the rules and I didn't complain. It was made more tolerable by the fact that with the Toten Chit I would now have the right (and the responsibility) of using axes and saws. Thus I knew I was only being tested by folks who wanted me to grow up and who wanted the best for me.

But neither did it feel good to lose my knife because I wasn't trusted.

Obviously, when people get disarmed overseas or here it will not be a temporary stage initiated by a government hoping to make them qualified to carry and use more and better tools.

It will instead be the last step in a long process of marginalization and degradation and when people hand over their arms (whether it be a knife or a gun) they will feel that they have also surrendered a part of their manhood. Women who have become armed and are now disarmed will also feel a keen sense of loss since their empancipation was far too recent to be taken away so quickly.

Politically conscious gun owners know that they will not surrender their arms whatever the cost in money, or even, God forbid, in lives.

But folks interested in other weapons don't know that. Maybe we can use the European and Australian experience to talk some sense into them.

Maybe, and I mean just maybe, it is time to start recruiting for the NRA at Renaissance Fairs.
