Kissimmee Gun Show

Well, I finally get to go to a gun show. I traveled all the way from Brooklyn, NY. I got my fingerprints done today(electronic). And will be attended a ccw course tomorrow at the gun show. Going to be a good day.

Had a great time at the gun show. People were very friendly. The ccw class was very informative. I have read that sone shows, you don't even shoot a gun, but we went to a range and shot 7 rounds. Can't wait to get some morr range time and training. I'm headed back to NY today and will mail out my app from there. One thing i'm wondering is how hard or easy will it be for me to purchase a handgun with a NYS id and Florida ccw in a Florida gunshop. I asked the instructor and he said I may or may not run into a little bump in the road there. So i guess we will see when that time comes. See you soon Sunshine State.

If I understand the law correctly, you basically can't legally purchase a handgun outside your state of residence. (As I remember, you came down to get a non-resident Florida permit, right?) If you are a resident of NY, you will not be able to make a legal purchase in Florida. If you are moving to Florida, it will almost certainly go smoother for you to get your DL changed promptly and use it for ID for your Florida purchase.

TailGator nailed it. Purchase is a no go. All the FLA non-resident permit does is allow you to carry. No buying of a handgun in FLA. Did you look into what you need to do if you become a FLA resident as far as permit fees and the change over?

Ok, I guess I misunderstood the fact that I can't purchase a handgun. So I guess that's a downer. I knew I could never bring it up north but I have a home down there that I could have left it at. In a safe of course. Now I keep hearing about this non-resident permit yet I didn't find the paper any different than a Florida residents paperwork. Is this something that when they send me the license, it will state non-resident permit? I did the normal paper work that everyone has been talking about. Another question, Is there some major paperwork i'm going to have to do to switch it over to Florida resident status when I move? And is there a big fee? I already have a home in Florida, which I used to have a Florida License too and it will be the address I will get my license down there again too, I think I might just take another trip soon and change my license over again. But I will still be in NYC until January or Febuary and I dont drive a car up here anyway.

It is the same paperwork and I've never seen a "non-resident" Florida CCW card and there's no address shown on my ("resident"?) CCW but that doesn't mean there isn't one, either identified by markings on the card itself (which I sort of doubt) or in the database thereto. Might be worth it for you to place a call to Tallahassee and ask.

Florida CCW card and there's no address shown on my ("resident"?) CCW

I have to ask if your are sure about the address not being on the license?
My CCW renewed 06/09 after the changes about going from 5 to 7 years before renewal. Even my D and G license had my address on them.

After doing some research this is what I found,
Division of Licensing
P.O. Box 3030
Tallahassee, FL 32315-3030

Effective February 12, 2010, the Division of Licensing is no longer printing the licensee's residence address on the face of the Florida concealed weapon license. The law does not require you to obtain a revised license after a change of address. You can continue to carry your current license until it expires; however, if you would like a revised license that does not include your residence address, please send us a written request along with a check or money order in the amount of $15.00 made payable to the Division of Licensing AND a passport-type color photograph.

Yep, mine renewed in June of 2010 so I got the new no-address version. I guess I didn't even notice if the address was on my first CCW. My D and MB both have addresses, as most likely did my now expired G.

I had to pull mine out to look, and sure enough it has no address on it after being issued a little less than a year ago. Never noticed that.:o
