King Cobra barrel gap,

Buddy brings over his new King Cobra in 357 magnum.

Beautiful revolver and really smoooth action.

I can fit a .006 feeler gauge between the barrel and frame.

Does he have any safety concerns?
 
I suspect that is what he meant but it is not my place to interpret it when he is talking in thousandths of an inch on a firearm.
 
Gap is where the barrel screws into the frame.

Between the barrel and frame, not cylinder and forcing cone.
 
In past years there have been reports of S&W revolvers with original type barrels that failed to mate up with the frame, and since the introduction of the new Colt Cobra and King Cobra a couple of reports of barrels not mating up.

In all cases this is a cosmetic fault, the revolvers shoot well and there are no reports of barrels loosening.

If the owner of the King Cobra sends it back to Colt for warranty repair they'll reset the barrel correctly.
Have him contact Colt for a return label or pickup.
 
If the shoulder of the barrel doesn't bear on the frame, how can the barrel be torqued up to spec? The thread just stops short? Doesn't sound kosher.

I'll try to get a picture the next time I see him.

Safety was/is his main concern.

Looks like the barrel needs about a quarter turn to mate with frame.

Of course, that would not look quite right.
 
For what Colt charges for those, I'd want it as close to perfectly fitted as possible. A gap of .006" between barrel and frame is more than I would accept. On a Taurus maybe, on a Colt NO.
