Kimber Ultra Carry or Glock 27 for everday CCW

As some of you may recall, I went in search of the perfect (for me) CCW .45, and ended up replacing the Glock 30 with a baby Kimber.

The Kimber is a beaut and very thin - is about "perfect" for me - but I still have a model 27 Glock (.40), which is ultra reliable, very small, and holds more rounds - I just love that little dude - I ain't half bad accurate with it either. I've been alternating between them both for CCW, depending on mood, and I know there's no right or wrong answer; just thought I'd see everyone's opinions. The Kimber's better if you see a friend and whip it out for some braggin'. :) But the Glock may be better for engaging multiple hostiles (yeah, I know - really likely) because of 3 more rounds - plus the glock is more stealthy - less likely to be spotted if the wind blows my jacket back. Recoil is about the same. Practical accuracy about the same. Prolly just keep switchin, but wanna see if I've missed any considerations. Which ammo is cheaper for bulk practice ammo, on average? I would think .40. I do plan to start reloading soon, and I could of course reload either caliber. .40 cheaper to re-load as well, I'd imagine, but only very marginally so.

I've got a Glock 27 as well. It's for work. The Kimber would be for show. So.........If you're planning on a firefight, take the Glock, or better yet an AR or AK. If you want style points the 1911 is the way to go. Dang those things are pretty. Now if I could just get the wife past the $900 price tag.:)

P.S. .45 is cheaper than .40 here.

Kinda Sorta like picking what pants or shoes for the day; or even like choosing which car or truck or bike to ride around in.

I have almost the same type guns. I have Kimber Ultra Carry, and a Glock 26, and they both see regular carry use depending on the mood of the day. For me, it seems the Kimber carries with a slimmer profile.

If I'm in slacks, it's the Kimber, Jeans, it's the Glock.

Cool - never thought of it that way - only in practical terms. Thanks for the input - I know the answer is "whichever one you practice with more", but that's kind of a chicken and egg thing - which one SHOULD I practice with more, and therefore carry whenever I think there's more likely to be trouble? The glock has the advantage of no external safety to "fumble" with, and is POSSIBLY more reliable, but the Kimber has the more natural grip angle. Interesting that .45 can be cheaper - I hadn't really checked .40 prices lately for cheap ball ammo. I'd imagine that since, in these parts, an opportunity to brag will come up at least 10 times as often as a self-defense scenario, I'm thinkin' stick with the Kimber MOST of the time, and the Glock for dark alleys. :)

What holsters do you use for the Kimber in slacks or jeans?

Mostly Galco or Don Hume, I don't really know the model name or number, of the holster, I just picked out the one that felt the best. I also have a couple (OK, a few) universal type nylon holsters with velcro straps.

A word of caution

I dont want to be too serious...but unless you are really experencied in gunfighting.....note I did not say shooting 500 rounds per week at the range or Hey I shoot thousands a week for IPSC....I am talking for real gunfights you need to get one gun and use it.... A Glock and a 1911 are worlds apart in function...for your sake...carrying one part time and switching to another is asking for big time trouble...you only need to forget the saftey once on a 1911 in ten thousand rounds to be dead...or draw a Glock with your finger on the trigger and .......

Pick a gun type and stay with that function for self defense.
