Kimber - Target or Fixed sights?

I was looking at a Kimber Stainless Target with the adjustable sights. My question is are they worth the extra $80 or so for a 1911 type gun or would I be better off just getting the Custom?

For serious target shooting, adjustable makes sense.
For carry or home defense, I've always found factory fixed sights to be adjusted for my eyes. Adjustable sights would allow you to adjust for you eyes and specific ammo you favor. I'm just concerned that they might drift, leaving me with misaligned sights when I need them the most.

a buddy of mine was going to try an optima on his Kimber for a while to see how he liked it.....he had the match target gun you mentioned with their adj sight--i got out my trusty brass rod (Sight knocker outer and dud bullet remover)---i have never had a sight that hard to knock out--after whacking it a few times i started looking for welds or something holding it in.....anyway it finally started moving and was a bitch every thousandanth or two that it moved-------Trust me--nothing you could ever do to that gun in the course of using it would ever drift those sights over........get the adjustable.....Dick

I have the gun you mentioned. The sights are well worth it, if you don't plan on carrying it regularly. For HD and rangework, you can't go wrong with the adjustables. They are pretty solid and I've never had a prob with drift. The only thing is later if you want to put on fixed sights, they won't work too well due to the cut in the slide. HTH

it's worth the extra money.I went back and forth over the same subject until
i decided to pick up the custom target.turned out to be the right choice for me,i love it!!!!!
the only diffence in me is that the stainless is a little too pretty for me!

Thanks for the info. I think I will go for the adjustable sights.

la rue, I really think the blue is prettier overall. I hate it so bad when I get a scratch on a blue gun that I now prefer stainless in pistols. It's kind of like the new car thing. You try to park in the boonies so you don't get a door dent. Then it happens and your eyes go right to it every time. I don't notice the scratches with stainless nearly so much.

I have the Kimber adjustible sights and I think they are one of the better 3 dot sites that I have seen. The dots are large enough to allow me to see the them very well at the indoor range where I shoot.
I would say yes they are well worth $80.00.

For a different perspective...

Buying the fixed sight model gives you a lot more options down the road. The slide is machined a good bit to fit the adjustable sight unit, and retro-fitting will be much more limited than if you have the simple one-cut dovetail of the fixed sight model to deal with.

MMC offers this adjustable sight that will fit into the fixed sight Kimber slide. I had them (MMC) custom mount a set of their sights into a Makarov I own. I thought they might look "blocky", but after I received the slide back from them I was pleased. The sights are nicely rounded and of a robust design - after over a year of being thrown into the glove box of my car & tossed into my home "easy access" locations, they haven't budged. The are offered in black, 3-dot, & a bunch of night sight options along with different finishes.

Obviously, buying the adjustables fitted from the factory is going to cost less than adding them later - simple economics. The slide is machined once instead of twice, you own 1 sight instead of 2, the labor to install 1 set is less than the labor to install, remove, then install, etc. If you are certain you want adjustables & you like the Kimber unit, I would buy it equipped that way.
