Kimber Swartz safety Question

OK, I know I spelled Swartz wrong, but I have a question about it.

First, I understand not depressing the grip safety when disassembling the pistol, and I know why. But, if the plunger(?) raises to disengage the firing pin block when the grip safety is depressed, how can the slide function when firing?
It seems to me that the very reason you can't depress the grip safety when field stripping the pistol should also cause a problem when firing.
Can someone please educate me?
 
Actually, you spelled Swartz correctly. It's not Schwartz or any other Internet Interpretation.

But I can't tell you how the lawyer lever tracks in the slide when assembled, it just does... usually.
 
the plunger is in a groove that does not extend all the way to the back of the slide therefore if you have the grip safety pressed while you try to disassemble the lawyer lever will hit the slide.
 
When the gun is fired, the slide comes back. When it is being disassembled, the slide goes forward. The plunger won't prevent the slide coming back from its rest position, but it will prevent it from going forward from that position.
