Kimber slides locks back

I also posted this on the 1911 forum. I have a new Custom Royal, and prior to today I had about 150-200 rounds through it. Today, while shooting my first magazine the slide stayed back almost every shot. I had to keep releasing it, and then set that magazine aside and continued shooting. Then It happened a few more times. I was shooting 230 LRN and 185 LSWC, all reloads. For some reason (coinidence?) it only happened with the LRN, and not with the SWC's. It happened with at least two different magazines, and the more I shot the fewer times it happened. I shot about 300 rounds today, and it happened about 4 times after the first magazine. Is this only a break-in issue, or do you think I have a problem I need to contact Kimber with? I also have two other Kimbers; a stainless Gold Match and a Royal Carry. Neither one has ever done this, however when the Gold Match was new it failed to lock the slide back on the last round a few times, but never locked back with rounds in the magazine. I appreciate any input from anyone who has experience this. Thanks in advance...Ron

Sounds like the bullets are coming into contact with the slide stop. You should be able to correct this by filing the slide stop where the bullet hits it. It is best to do this with the slide off of the receiver, put the slide stop in the receiver and gently push the magazine containing the offending rounds into the receiver and watch for contact with the slide stop. Be careful that you do not file off too much from the stop so that the magazine follower will not engage the stop.

Measure the ammo...bet it's 1.260 or longer...You may need to "adjust" your slide stop a bit. Or...move your thumb ;)
