Kimber rifle owners

I tried calling the Kimber factory to ask about accuracy standards, the fellow wouldn't answer the question and hung up. I want a Kimber 84L standard grade in 30/06 but not finding anyone local with an inventory of these rifles. What kind of accuracy should one expect with these rifle and what is the factory definition of acceptable accuracy! I know this isn't something talked about by manufactures but as a consumer we should have those kind of answers.. William

Hi William,

Hard to understand why Kimber wouldn't discuss accuracy. I'd be on the phone to the fine folks at Cooper. I've wanted a Cooper, but just can't make myself spend the money.

In my experience most are plenty accurate. Many shooters aren't good enough to make them shoot up to potential. It requires near perfect form off a bench to get a 5lb rifle to shoot as well as an 8 lb rifle. I've had mine about 4-5 years and there was a learning curve. It didn't shoot it as well as I'd have liked for the first few range trips. Once mastered I'm quite pleased.

I do read a lot of posts from some who complain of sub par accuracy with them. Like any rifle there are bound to be a few that just don't shoot well, but I tend to believe most of the issues are with folks who just can't master the rifle. I've only shot the one, but have come across many folks on the net who own, or have owned multiple guns and all shot fine.

I admit it is a fluke, but you don't do this with a poor shooting rifle. I typically put 3 shots into roughly 1" +/- a bit. 1/2" groups are a lot more common than 1 1/2 groups.

They are accurate, however a lot of people have trouble shooting their light weight rifles accurately. I have sold lots where people tried to return them for accuracy issues, only to come back from Kimber with sub MOA test targets.

I have a 8400 Advanced Tactical and a Mountain Ascent, both more accurate than I will ever be.

Makes me feel a bit better, typically 50-60% of the groups I fire on paper will be at or sub MOA. At my age "72" I can't shoot better than that. Besides with a torn rotator cuff repair I won't be shooting any time soon.. William

I have an 84l in 30-06 like you are looking at.
Mine took maybe 50 or so shots to settle down but shoots very well now.
Like others have said it takes really good technique to shoot lighter rifles accurately.
I had mine bedded and put on a Suppressor and it shoots sub MOA with my Handloads (Nosler BT and 2208/Varget)
I just blooded it only a month ago on a huge Red Deer at around 230m, first shot hit a little far back but the second caught it in the neck and boom flop...
I love the way this rifle fits me, it feels right and is beautifully pointable:)
