Kimber Pro Carry Stainless Input please

I am thinking of buying a Kimber Pro Carry Stainless with the alloy frame. I currently have a full size Argentine Sistema (made in 1945 in Argentina under license from Colt with Colt's equipment). I like it alot, but I want a mid-size 1911 45. I have been looking at the Kimber, Springfield Champion and Colt Commander. I really like the Kimber and I am think of going that way. Can you give any input on the Kimber and the others? Maybe Kimber versus the others? (recoil, muzzle flip, accuracy; against each other and against the full size 1911).

The gun might, I stress might, be used as a carry weapon, that is why I am thinking about the alloy frame version. But it would not be a constant carry piece, so I am not quite as worried about it being bigger than some other choices.

I REALLY like the 1911 platform. It is the most accurate I have ever been with a gun. And I like the full size frame/grip, so that leaves me in the mid-size.

I appreciate any input you are willing to give.

Thanks!!!!

Kimber enjoys a reputation as offering arguably the best non-custom 1911 available.

The felt recoil from switching to an aluminum frame isn't prohibitive. Unless you're recoil shy don't dwell on it. This from a fan of steel framed 1911s. Speaking of which, I find that given a quality holster and belt combo there is no practical difference between carrying a steel framed and an aluminum framed pistol around all day. So I carry and shoot steel framed ones. They just "feel" better to me. Especially during rapid fire drills. Then there's the fact that you'll never have to worry about a cracked steel frame.

As for accuracy, you might find that the shorter Kimber offers a boost in accuracy over your Systema. That depends a lot on you Systema, of course. Either way, in practical terms, the shorter 1911s are accurate enough.

gsl,I change guns like others change underwear.I've owned several Combat Commanders, one SA Compact alloy frame(really miss it),one Enhanced Officers Model alloy frame, three Colt 1991 compacts, one Kimber Ultra CarryII (for five days),and currently a Kimber STS Pro Carry ss slide, alloy frame.I like the Commanders length slide for reliability. The SA Compact was the best all around carry gun of the bunch and the reason I own the Kimber Pro Carry is that I couldn't find another SA Compact.hat being said,I really like this Pro Carry.Pros,Good balance, light weight, nice sights, excellent trigger pull, excellent reliability.Cons, plastic MSH,silver color, rubber grips.cost $300.00 more than the SA Compact. These are My opinions. No Flame Wars please.tom.

I have a Kimber, it is a decent gun. BUT, the first thing that you need to do is trash the factory mag. They have to cut costs somewhere, and it is the mag in this case. Get a couple of Chip McCormick shooting stars and you will be OK. Also, these guns like about 500 rounds or so throught them before they can be considered to be reliable. I've only put a hundred or so rounds through mine, and I will not carry it until it can shoot at least 100 rounds without a malfunction. Most of my malfunctions have been either FTRTB or the round jamming while coming out of the clip after firing the gun. Best -

I don't carry at the moment and I shoot mostly IDPA type events (some sanctioned, some not). So that is why I am not as overly concerned about finding a "tiny" gun to carry.

I picked up both the steel frame and the alloy frame Pro Carry at a local gun shop the other day. They both feel great, but I really liked the balance of the alloy frame. Since it is SS, the color of the frame and slide are a little different, but that doesn't really bother me. Boy I wish there was a way to shoot a gun before you buy it (hey, there is an idea, I'll buy one of every new gun made and start a business!!! :D )

I put about 100 rds or so through my full size 1911A1 a week. So I am getting pretty comfortable with the gun. What I am concerned about is with the lighter weight and shorter slide/barrel I will have to "learn" a new gun. My hope is to get it and just pickup where I left off with the full-size.

As for carry, the thought is that if I decide to, it could be used for that as well. But I know that one gun can't do everything. ;)
