Have you seen the photos of the Kimber .45 caliber CDF series in the September/October issue of "American Handgunner? If you don't already have "1911 fever", this article will give it to you.
Kimbers sure look nice. How do they function? Everybody happy?

I have been looking at those photos and now I can look at the real thing! Just got home with my new compact cdp and went out back and shot it a few times. I wish I had bought one a long time ago. This is definately a step up for me. :)

Way to go Cplane!
The magazine stated that most people went for the compact model because it's easier to conceal.
If you don't mind my asking, how much did it cost? (You don't have to post the cost if you don't want to. :))

WLM--Don't mind posting the cost at all.The Gun Shop in walhalla SC sells them for $925.00 but he knocks off $10.00 for cash or check. I looked around and this was the cheapest place in my neck of the woods. It was about $100.00 cheaper than one place I checked--Their # is 864-638-5821 -Great people to deal with--C.L.

I am thrilled with my Pro CDP. It's the pistol that I was looking for when I bought the other 3!!! (grin)

It's accurate, light, *REALLY* nice trigger - A Sweet shooter! I am getting used to the ambi-safety too...

You might as well... You KNOW you want to... Just don't do as I did and buy a bunch of other pistols when you really knew what you needed all along...

As far as QC on the high end Kimbers (or Kimbers at large) - They must ship all the good ones to Reno/Carson City cause I have 3 and they all function flawlessly...

YMMV and HTH!

Patrick, I can identify with what you said about buying several other pistols when all along you knew you wanted the Kimber. I started out over 2 years ago wanting a colt 1911. I went to a shop and looked at them and the salesman didn't have anything good to say about them, so I wound up buying a Ruger P90 at another shop. Good pistol, but I couldn't hit with it. Maybe it was me. I bought a Beretta 92 next and I really think it is a top notch piece but there was still something about those 1911's that I liked and so I bought a Charles Daly Mid Size. Great Value and a good accurate pistol, but it only made me look at those pictures that started this thread! So after a trip to a Kimber dealer and picking one up and seeing how light it was and how good it felt, I had to find out if it shot as well as it looked. I can say now that it does. I don't think I will need to buy another pistol for a long time.(unless I can talk my wife into getting me one of the full size or mid size Kimbers!) :)

I'll second the recommendation for the Gun Shop in Walhalla, SC. I've bought a G27 and P95D there at good prices (for buying locally anyway). Pretty nice folks. I like George, and he recently got a nice Kimber himself (showed me last time I was there).

I have a Kimber Ultra Elite which is the predecessor of the CDP compact. It is my everyday carry gun. The Milt Sparks VM2 works very well for this piece. Darry Gallagher makes a great holster called the tuckable and one called the Texican that work great also. Very versatile and comfortable, concealable carry. I changed a few things on pistol to make it a more comfortable carry for me (slim-tech grips, Brown mainspring housing, and STI carbon fiber short trigger). Enjoy! By the way, down here, the compact tends to go for less then the commander size. At the most recent gunshow this last weekend, saw them for $850 nib and have seen them for less at other shows ($795 cash in San Antonio 2 weeks ago). You would think that it would be the other way around, but it seems that many folks worry about the muzzle velocity of a .45 round coming out of a 3" barrel and are afraid of stepping up to +p loads in a light aluminum frame pistol. Understandable if you plan on shooting it a lot. I have gone the high speed frangible round route for this reason for defensive purposes (RBCD or magsafe SWAT). After a magazine feed problem, I have had not had a problem since switching to Wilson and Mec-gar.

Just bought a Pro CDP recently and I love it. A great concealed carry weapon, stylish design and not to mention, the potent package it comes in with, the .45 ACP!

I have a Kimber Custom Target that was left in my care while the owner is out of the country.... I am not looking to start a flame war, but this thing sucks, Jam-O-Matic to the bone! I mean it shoots VERY accurately, when it doesn't jam. I have never shot any other 1911 but based on this, I shudder at the thought of you guys using these things for carry purposes. Maybe this one I have is out of whack, but I would not go out an buy one for $900+! I have no trust in the design whatsoever. It is also a nightmare to take down compared to most modern "ugly" guns. Just my .000000000002 cents worth.

Wedge,
I don't think you'll start a flame war. No brand is perfect. I agree that it would feel pretty bad to purchase a pistol for $900.00, and then find it not to be reliable.
There is a thread on Glock Talk regarding a fellow who has had to send his P-32 back three or four times. It must make him feel just awful to keep reading posts from guys like me who have had absolutely NO malfunctions with the little pistol.
That's the way it goes, I guess.

Some of the Kimbers from the Custom Shop are just plain pretty! Here's mine, an Elite Carry, sporting a set of the new CTC laser grips. They look good, work great, and are a great accessory for carry, training and just plain plinking fun.
Enjoy ......SmithNut

WLM,
I have had it now for about 3 months. It is a very nice piece, made well, fit and finish are outstanding. If this indicative of how Kimber does all their stuff, I am happy to recommend them. BTW, it is a SHOOTER!! Couldn't be happier. It functions, no problems to date using my reloads, and several brands of factory. Interesting thing, with the spring setup this piece doesn't have the "felt" recoil of some of my full sized 1911's. .......SmithNut

Just as a point of clarification, American Handgunner got very confused in the article when they talked about the different models. They frequently wrote about the Pro when they meant Compact and visa versa.

The Pro has the full-size grip, the Compact has the abbreviated grip. Both of these have the 4" barrel.

I have a Compact CDP. It has worked pretty well except when firing +P ammo. I'm only up to about 300 rounds through it though, and reliability is still increasing as it wears in. Great gun! Basically the same as the Elite Carry above except with a different trigger and frontstrap checkered 30lpi. (The Elite Carry's 20LPI was VERY sharp.)
