I have an Smith 4013 TSW, all stainless .40 w/hogue grips, I have been happy with its performance so far, only thing is it has a bit of a wide grip for me. It also has all the bells and whisles you could want in a factory pistol allreay intalled/done.

I am looking really hard and really wanting a Kimber, im thinking the all stainless ultr-carry w/ same features. Question, will I be happy with it do you think? Are they as good as people claim or is it hype? Is it a big enough difference that it is worth the trade/upgrade?

next is .40 or .45 any opinions there also?

BTW- this is for a carry gun, also anyone else reading this, Kimber or Glock? which is better? AHHH im so confused??

Thanks for any help

Keep S&W, ADD Kimber. Even if you have to wait while saving your pennies.......

Whether you trade the Smith is your decision. I have no experience with that gun. However, I think you will be very happy with any Kimber you choose. I have a stainless compact with rosewood grips. I love this gun. It has become my favorite from among what I own.

I just traded a Glock 19 in on a Kimber CDP ultra . I thought the Glock was a good pistol but the Kimber is an upgrade. It just feels better to me and I can hit better with it. Plus , the Kimber CDP allready has the "Bells & Whistles " . Not to mention you step up to 45 acp. I think you will be happy with a Kimber. Even if you have big hands, the Ultras afford a good comfortable grip. The checkered grips and front and rear strap on the CDP lets it stick to your hands like the old "Cat's Tongue" handled Gerber MKII Knife.

ok aunthor spin on this to add to the mix?

I was reading the post about the g27 in .40 caliber, how does the .40 compare to the .45 in power and overall? Is the .45 really more comfortable to shoot?

.40 is believed to have a very slight stopping power advantage. But, IMO the .45 ACP is much easier to shoot. The .40 has a snappy/high muzzle rising recoil; while the .45 has a heavy, but usu straight back recoil. I can shoot almost any 45 much more comfortably than a corresponding .40-- and the .45 tends to be a lot more accurate too.

IAJack.....I have a S&W 4013TSW. Is this the same one you have? At any rate, My 4013TSW is one heck of a shooter. Holds 9 rounds in the mag and one in the tube. It's light, has a nice trigger (Wolff spring kit) and is very accurate. I have the stock grips on mine and have small hands. Have no trouble shooting this pistol. Hogue grips tend to make the grip a little thicker. I would not trade my S&W (purchased before they did us dirty) for the Kimber Ultra Carry. This is just me. I have had no luck with any 1911 that had a barrel shorter than 4". I do have a Kimber Custom with a few modifications, and a Kimber Compact, all steel and totally stock. Both are as relilable as the morning sun. If your Smith is a relilable piece, I would not trade. Save up for a Kimber and keep the gun you have. I think that all handguns are going to be harder to come by in the coming years. I do believe that Kimbers are excellent guns and every bit as good as people say. I just have had no luck getting a sub 4" barrel to be relilable for me in a 1911. Shoot Safe....CO

I dont know about the Smith. But I have a Kimber Classic Custom and just got a Kimber Pro Carry SLE and love them both they are great shooters. I would get the Kimber!! :) Just my opinion

Good Luck

opps mistype in my post there...yes it is a 4013 TSW I now have.

The .40 just seems to "rock" side to side a bit in my hand with the wider frame/grip that it has, plus the recoil seems really sharp. I can hit with it, and don't mind shooting it, but the recoil is just on the edge of uncomfortable. Was wondering if the .45 is as differnt as they say, or if Id be sacraficing alot of power

thanks keep em comming

Only problem I see is that you *really* need to shoot one prior to making your decision. I also agree with the save your $$ and get both. In all seriousness, two pistols is a minimum. If one is down or out for mods, you have a spare.

IMHO, recoil is not a caliber issue, more of a gun/person issue. My 1911 fits me and has little percieved recoil. A Glock 27 I shot extensivly had more muzzle flip. The S&W Airweight and Glock 26 I usually carry kick more than my 1911. (more uncomfortable?) Inconsistant? Yep - and just to add more confusion, a Browning HP eats me alive. Does not kick, but cuts me to ribbons.

So - try very hard to shoot one first..

Jack,

I had a 4013TSW. Slicked up by Teddy Jacobson (actions by T). I regret the day I traded it!

The Kimber is a best buy among 1911s. I have the Compact Aluminum and Classic Custom and love 'em both!! Both .45s btw.

If at all possible keep the Smith.

Both the .40 & .45 have ample stopping power. The recoil with a .45 is nothing to be concerned with vs the .40

ps- if the 4013 seems "fat" to you the G27 probably will also :)

I have two Kimbers, and am very happy with them. Having said that, don't give up one gun for another unless you absolutely have to. I've been doing that for too long, and now regret the guns that are gone. As someone said before, we may not be able to buy them in the future.
