Kimber Micro Carry 380: How Much Rattle Is Acceptable?

I recently purchased a pair of Kimber Micro Carry 380 in a short time span. I bought them online, so I did not get to handle them before I paid for them.

One of the pistols is well-fitted/assembled and is great. The other one, however, rattles quite a bit even when shaken mildly. There seems to be a significant amount of slop between the slide and the frame. I'd say I can push the slide sideways from the frame at least 1mm or so back and forth. Is that acceptable in a new gun? Or should I contact Kimber?

I'd appreciate some advice. Thank you.

Before you contact Kimber for a seemingly non issue i would take the pistols out and fire a bunch of rounds through them. If your "rattle" pistol does not perform properly or is not accurate ( these are normally very accurate pistols) then I would contact Kimber. Fortunately you have another "non rattle" pistol to compare.

I agree with Ibmikey.

I don't really like Kimber, but I won't deny they make some nice and reliable 1911s if you're not unlucky.

I've heard from a lot of sources that one issue which causes some malfunctions is that the machining tolerances can overlap when producing the individual parts. That can lead to one gun having almost a hand-fitted feel, a gun that rattles like a GI 1911, and a gun that wont cycle properly.

Kimber is a luck of the draw (with it working out most of the time).
