Kimber Maintenance

Okay guys. All your comments on my first/only post was great. I appreciate your comments and have decided to go ahead with the purchase. I'll let you know how it goes. I now have one other question. I've been reading alot of the things you guys do to fix some of your own problems. I want to get a manual to learn how to do some of this stuff. I know Kimbers, at the very least, are different from other 1911's in how you disassemble them. What other differences are there (NOW BE NICE!!)?? Will any of the various manuals for 1911s work on the Kimber? Thanks again for your help.

Danny45: Wilson Combat maintainence manual is a clear, compact, easy to read manual which I use to completely disassemble and reassemble my Kimber Gold Match and my Custom Compact. I also have a military manuel but really like the pictures and text in the Wilson manuel.
All the best,

Kimbers disassemble in the exact same way as other 1911s. Any 1911 manual will work. I have a Kimber, Baer, and Norinco--all will appear the same to the shooter. The only differences are in the non-visuals--slide to frame fit, barrel quality, etc.

I don't know which Kimber you got but the Pro Carry can be a bit weird at first.

What's the best maintence procedure for a Kimber? Take it to the garden. Stick it into the ground. Then plant tomato seeds. Just KIDDING!!!

Seriously, you'll do just fine with just about any decent 1911 manual. Keep your Kimber clean, practice a lot and you'll have many years of enjoyment with it.

BTW, if Wilson mags are the best :)

Now ArmySon, I asked you to be nice! LOL I appreciate your words, as I know from reading other posts the problems you've had. The model I'm getting is a Pro Elite custom shop job that was born on 7/26/99. (already checked on that) I've had a couple of discussions and traded e-mails with Kimber since my first post the other day. They even wanted my number so they could call me! I told them flat out, they've gotten a bad rep so far and they needed to make sure they turn it around. That includes fixing any problems that I hope I DON'T have when I get my pistol. Thanks again.

Danny45: I'm sure you've heard the phrase "If I can do it, anyone can do it" That was written about me I think! Good instructions and a litte patience is all that is required for basic maintenance of your pistol. Enjoy.
