Kimber....Hmmmm...

After owning both a G-21 and a G-30 I have come to the conclusion that I love my .45's. However I am looking for something a little slimmer than the G-30 and as a nod to the great cult of the 1911, ;) I've decided to buy a Kimber Stainless Ultra Carry. Noticed from the writeup its given, it's already duly polished and prettied at the factory. At least that's what their website says... Read: Modifications need not apply!
My local gunsmith/gunstoreowner told me the same thing.
Now here's the rub: $680.00, worth it? I'm new to the SA .45, though I did have a Browning High Power.
Any thoughts would be welcomed!

I recently switched from a G30 to a Kimber Compact for CCW. For me, the Kimber is more comfortable to carry and I shoot better with it than the Glock. I've got about 800 rounds through my Kimber with no malfunctions.

For me, $680 would be worth it. However, I can't say what is right for anyone else. :)

Gotta say that I really like the little Kimber, especially in stainless!'

Don't own one, but had to opportunity a few weeks ago to put 200 rounds through one. It jumps around a lot more than my heavier .45s, but that was expected.

It was accurate (2" @ 25 yds) and didn't choke on the odd mix of ammo I fed it (even mixed the ammo in one mag).

I'm also thinking about one, but I think I will hold out for a little while longer until I can handle the Glock 36, then decide.

Good Luck

Thanks for the info, lately my "gun money" has been spent on training.
But your post and the posts of the others on this board may just make me re-examine the Kimber purchase...Lets see now a single stack .45, that's just as flat as a Kimber...Hmmm.

I recently acquired a blued Ultra Carry and like it a lot. I've only got a couple hyndred rounds thru it so far, but there have been no hiccups or FTF on a variety of FMJs & JHPs, seems happy to eat whateer its fed. It's quite accurate for it's size, recoil isn't at all bad. I'm thinking of a set of Ashley Express sights, but overall, it's about perfect for me out of the box. M2

Glock is coming out with a new slim .45. I think it is the 36. If you have Glocks and want a slimmer carry gun, that would make more sense than switching to a 1911. A 1911 would make sense if you want a competition gun.
quote:
Originally posted by CrociJA:

Actually, I can find little justification for the G36. It isn't THAT much slimmer than the 30, but it only holds SIX rounds??
The Ultra Carry is smaller than the 36 and with a Wilson mag you still have 7 rounds in it.

I've had a stainless Kimber Ultra Carry for about 8 months. It seems to be very reliable with several different brands and handles the reloads that we make very well. I have experienced only a few stopages with it and both were with 230 grain commercial ball (go figure). I don't have any trouble doing reasonably accurate shooting with this gun, though the recoil is stiff. I think I payed close to $700 for it so your price seems about right. It does have a slightly different take down procedure than for other 1911's, but it's not too bad.

If this is a carry gun, used for defense---please have the gun checked over by a qualified 1911 smith.

Also, please fire a minimum of 300 rounds of the defense ammo you plan to use before anointing this as your carry gun.

Good Luck!
