Kimber Eclipse

I am interested in a new 1911 and saw a Kimber Eclipse today. Tried to run a search here to see what has been said about the Eclipse but, evidently, the search function has been disabled. So, any experience, comments, criticism of the Eclipse per se? Sure would like to hear from all of you.

I fell in love with one at first sight, and bought it a day later. It is sickeningly accurate and reliable. From the comments on 1911forum.com, the only issue with it has been the night sights going dark after the stress of just a few hundred rounds. Others have said their adjustable rear sights broke as well. So far mine haven't, but if it does I'll just change the sights to Bo-Mars.

Handled 2 today, one full size and one commander size. Sweet would be an understatement! Besides the looks, the fit & finish were top notch and the trigger was the deadly combination of light & crisp. Now, to come up with the $1100 to buy one!

Kermit,

Are you serious on that price? I see people posting about them being in mid $800 range. I know you are in Commiefornia, but can you still get them shipped in at the cheaper price? $1,100 sounds nuts for a gun selling for $850 elsewhere. I am also looking at getting one of these guns. They sure do look sweet.

$850!!! This was the first Eclipse I'd seen. Time to shop around. By the way, the $1100 would include 8.25% tax and a dros fee. Tagged price was $999.

Sounds good so far......

so I'm encouraged. Here in the great Northwest, Oregon, the price tag is an even $1000.00! How does the Eclipse stack up when compared to, say, a Wilson Millenium Protector? Fair comparison of not?

Pretty much what dsk said,

and would add that I went to the gun store looking for something else until I was handed the Eclipse. Wow! Wound up buying it. Front sight is dark after 360 rounds, but having so much fun shooting it that I haven't sent the slide back to Kimber yet. :)

Mine is very tight and very accurate. Only complaint so far (other than the dark sight) is that the slide stop notch in the slide is ever so slightly burred from 7 or 8 releases of the slide with the slide stop lever. No biggie, since I usually "slingshot" the slide anyway and was just playing doing it the other way. OTOH, if you do normally use the slide stop release method, then it might be cause for concern.

Do you get to the Gresham area much. The reason I ask is because Kieth's sporting goods has them for a little over $900.00. I am in Vancouver, wa and got mine for $929.95 but there was tax to be added.

As far as the gun goes. They are a excellent looking gun with all the works. A great match trigger, mine breaks at just about 3LB. I had the night Sights changed to the Kimber 3 dot adjustables.

To Kermit and Dairy

I was just quoted a price of $837 on the Eclipse. If you are interested, I can send you the e-mail address of the dealer. I think I am going to buy one, instead of the Glock I had held for me. Now, my only debate is should I get the full size or the pro carry.

Anybody,
Whats the deal with the front sight going black, isn't it supposed to be a tritium night site?

Also could somebody help me with a compare and contrast of the Kimber Eclipse and Springfield TRP?

One of them will end up in my safe pretty soon.
Thanks,
M

Well over 1,000 rds, not one hiccup. The gun is awesome in everyway. The first time I shot was an IDPA classifier and I went from marksman to Sharpshooter. I paid $850 for gun, four Wilson Combat mags and a bladetech holster. I have a good friend I shoot with and he purchased a Springfield TRP about the same time, he has since returned his Springfield and purchased a Kimber Super Match. The TRP went full auto under 300 rds and then at about 500 rds the saftey fell off. I never shot it, but that was his experience. My Kimber is pefect and so is that sexy finish. Oh and the trigger :D man what a trigger. It just keeps getting better.

I get to Keith's on occasion. But I live beyond Hillsboro in rural Washington County and, frankly, it is really inconvenient to get to Gresham. But thanks for the heads up on price anyway. It's much appreciated.

I fell in love with the Pro Eclipse (4" bushing-less barrel, night sights) the first time I saw it. Shoots great, though hardly broken it yet.

I own three Eclipsii, two Custom (5") and one Ultra (3"). Both full size guns have been incredible. Accurate, reliable, pretty. The Ultra had to go back to Kimber for extractor adjustment but seems OK now. In a semi-custom 1911 they are an incredible value.
