Kimber Custom v. Colt Gvt XSE v. Glock 21

I'm currently considering one of these as a new carry gun and have read lots of threads of opinion regarding each. Still, I'm undecided. Is there anyone out there with experience with all three of these pistols who can shed some light on the pluses and minuses?

I've been shopping around and I've found the following prices on each:

Kimber $589
Colt $725
Glock $550

Any and all help is greatly appreciated.

The only two that can be fairly compared are the Kimber and the Colt. The Glock is a polymer framed, high capacity gun with a dissimilar trigger.

Between the Kimber and the Colt, the Kimber is the better buy. The Colt doesn't have anything, other than the Colt rollmarks, that could justify the extra 136$. The Kimber comes with the better trigger (this was true of the two I got to shoot) and better grips.(personal preference)

To be fair you must first choose between a Glock or a 1911 style pistol, then decide if you just have to have a 1911 with Colt rollmarks or 136$ in your pocket.

Apples and Oreos...

For a carry gun?

I'd have to say the Kimber. The Glock 21 is a hoss of a gun and a bit too long & chunky in the grip for most folks to carry. If it was the G30, I'd be more ambivelent; I carry both the G29/30 and the full-size 1911 depending on the phase of the moon and the current barometric pressure.

Even a G30 is harder for me to conceal than a 1911, due to its thickness.

I think that in 50 yrs, a Colt bought new today will be worth more than a Kimber bought new today.

I'd get the Kimber. Better gun than the Colt for less money.

I own a G21, and I'm a BIG guy (6'3", 275 lbs, sz. 14 ring finger). My CCW is a G19. :D

I think Lonegunman has a very valid point ,as I own both guns and cherish them both but often wonder if the Kimber will be worth as much in later years! The kimbers are great guns but only time will tell if the kimbers will hold thier value in the end as much as my Colts have.As to the Glock what can I say i Love them too ,but they are a different bird alltogether, at the present time i would say go for the Kimber though.

Like I said to the guy on a Harley who commented on the resale value of my Suzuki sports bike: "I bought it to ride, not to sell".

If you want a good gun investment, an all-stock military 1911 or a P&R *&* magnum N-frame revolver are two fine future investments. Just don't carry, modify or shoot them, and you will see them rise in value. ;)

Allow me to clarify my previous post. I dont see any reason to own a gun I can't (or won't) shoot. If I am just going to look at one, a ticket to a gun show or museum is a whole lot cheaper than buying the gun.

So, when I said a Colt would hold value better, I was not implying it shouldnt be shot!

Shoot the Colt all you want, and I bet it will still be worth more than the Kimber. This is not a throw off on the Kimber; they are great guns, and I love mine. Its just Colt will always have a following of people willing to pay too much money for them!

Which gun did you get? I have all three. But my Glock is a .40 S&W. I have been using the Kimber Custom Classic lately but all of them are good. I did a 1000 rd test on all three of them.

Glock 23 zero ftf's
Kimber Custom II 6 ftf's
Colt MK IV 80 series 3 ftf's

I got the Kimber this past Christmas. The ftf's occured in the first 200 rds
